The Northern Manitoba Blizzard picked up a single point after playing two games against the Portage Terriers.
Sunday’s contest was an entertaining one for fans. The first period belonged to Northern Manitoba, as the Terriers found themselves in penalty trouble. The Blizz capitalized with two power-play goals from Seth Quayle and Isaac Tomchak, while Jett Fogle added another even-strength goal to give Northern Manitoba a 3–0 lead heading into the second period.
Portage responded early in the middle frame, with Trevor Hill scoring on the power play to cut the lead to 3–1.
In the third period, the Terriers came to life. Just past the halfway mark, Portage scored three goals in a three-minute span to take a 4–3 lead. Shortly after, Kasen Harold answered for the Blizz, tying the game at 4–4 and forcing overtime.
Neither team found the winner in the extra frame, sending the game to a shootout. Portage’s Drayden Uhrina and Trevor Hill both converted, while Harold and Tomchak were unable to score, giving the Terriers a 5–4 come-from-behind victory.
Monday’s matchup was a different story, as Portage controlled the game from start to finish, scoring five times en route to a 5–0 win.
The Blizz return home for Trappers weekend, where they’ll host back-to-back games Friday and Saturday against two of the MJHL’s top teams, Steinbach and Niverville. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. both nights.
