The 2024 regular season for The Pas Slo-Pitch league wraps up this week, with games being played only tonight and Thursday.

Tonight five games are happening in various fields across town, the Arena 1 baseball diamond will host two matchups. At  6:30 the Jacs will take on team Young Guns & Then Some, right after at 8:00 the Hell Cats will Challenge the Alouette Base Invaders.  At the Centennial field team Balls Deep will play two back-to-back games, at 6:30 they'll play the Mall Rats and at 8:00 they'll go toe to toe with the Hardwoods. As always there's only one game at the Kinsmen Field, at 6:30 the Hell Cats will battle the Deadly Diamonds.

Another jam-packed slate is in store for Thursday as there are five games scheduled to take place. Team 309/East LA plays two consecutive games at the Arena 1 baseball diamond, at 6:30 they'll contend against the Hardwoods and then at 8:00 they'll grapple with team Young Guns & Then Some. At the Centennial Field at 6:30 the Fireballz will entertain the Hell Cats, and at 8:00 the Alouette Base Invaders will wrap up their regular season against the Yankdeez. Before that game, the Yankdeez will square off against the Jacs at 6:30 at the Kinsmen Field.

Teams have until August 9th to complete all the missing games on their schedule. 

Tryouts for the Norman Northstars will occur near the end of August and are open to all players between the ages of 15-17. The tryouts will be quote "extremely competitive" so players are expected to show up in the best possible shape.

Before the three-day tryout, which starts on August 23rd, the Norman Northstars are offering a conditioning camp. The first part runs from August 12th to the 16th and the second portion of the camp starts on the 19th and goes till the 22nd.

Space is limited for their conditioning camp so it's recommended that you sign up your child as soon as possible, they're offering sessions for kids, teens and goalies.

Parents, registration is now open for The Pas Huskies 2024 to 2025 hockey season.

 

If you sign up now during early-bird pricing you'll receive a $100 discount, the deadline for this promotion is August 14th. They're also offering a multiple-player discount for parents signing up three or more children.

 

To register a child for the upcoming hockey season, parents must complete three mandatory steps. These steps can be found on their website thepasminorhockey.ca, they ask that you carefully read all instructions.

Your Blizzard has a new name for the 2024/2025 hockey season,  they will now go by the Northern Manitoba Blizzard. 

It was announced yesterday via Facebook that the Junior A Hockey Club will implement a new name to not only accelerate the club's future direction but also honour the team's rich history. 

The name change is meant to represent and honour what northern hockey is all about, they also changed their jerseys which can be viewed on either their website normanblizzard.com or their Facebook page Northern Manitoba Blizzard. 

Three weeks remain in  The Pas Slo-Pitch League's 2024 season,  four games are happening tonight here in town. At 6:30 P.M. at the Arena 1 baseball diamond Team T will go head to head with the Hardwoods. First up at the Centennial field, the Alouette Base Invaders will challenge the Mall Rats, at 8:00 P.M. the FireBallz take on the Yankdeez. At the Kinsmen Field, team BD will play the Jacs, that game starts at 6:30 P.M.

To kick off Thursday the Deadly Diamonds and team Young Guns & Then Some will make their week 9 debuts as they battle it out at Arena 1. At the Centennial field, the Alouette Base Invaders wrap up their week by going up against team 309/East LA, both games start at 6:30 P.M. At 8:00 P.M at the Centennial Field team 309/East LA will play their second game of the night against team BD, Arena 1 will host a matchup between the Hardwoods and the Hell Cats.

To cap off the week on Friday team Young Guns & Then Some will face team T at Arena 1  at 6:30, and soon after at 8:00 the Jacs will compete with the FireBallz. Only one game is happening at the Centennial Field, the Yankdeez will go toe-to-toe with the Deadly Diamonds at 6:30 P.M. The last game on the schedule will feature a clash between the Hell Cats and Mall Rats, that game goes down at the Kinsmen field and it begins at 6:30 P.M.

The registration deadline for the upcoming 13th Annual Clearwater Lake Half Marathon is just around the corner. Competitors have until July 18th to sign up and either walk or run the 21K, 10K, 5K or 1K. On Saturday, July 20th, race packages will be available for pick up at the Clearwater Lake Hall from 11 A.M to 3 P.M, the event itself goes down the next day on July 21st. Those who plan on walking or running will receive a free breakfast, as for spectators it will cost $7 to enjoy a pancake breakfast that runs from 9:30 A.M to 12 P.M. Those who pledge $50 or more will be entered for a chance to win two Calm Air Tickets, all pledges support the Critically Ill Children's Fund which is used to assist families with medical and related costs.  Pledges can be made online by visiting raceroster.com. The Pas Fire Department Association is calling on all fire departments, paramedics, officers and sheriffs for their 1st Annual Emergency Services Slo-Pitch Fundraiser Tournament.  The funds raised will help support local firefighter Xander Wadelius who was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. The tourney starts on August 2nd and runs till the 4th with all games being played in The Pas. The tournament will feature kids' activities, draws, a canteen, a beer garden and a home run derby for participants. If you and your team are coming in from out of town, camping will be available at the Ag Grounds and Clearwater Provincial Park. M30 Athletics 3rd Annual Soccer Camp Tour kicks off next weekend. They will first stop at Misipawistik Cree Nation from July 18th to the 19th. They will then cap off their tour at Chemawawin Cree Nation, it starts on July 25th and goes till the 26th. Both camps will feature drills, games, skill competitions and a tournament.

Two games are happening back to back at the Centennial Field, team 309/East LA will first play the Deadly Diamonds and then right after they'll take on the FireBallz. The last game goes down at the Kinsmen Field and will feature a matchup between team Young Guns & Then Some and the Mall Rats.

First up at 6:30, the Mall Rats play their second game of the week against the Hardwoods, then at 8:00 team T will clash with the Yankdeez. Moving on to the Centennial field, the FireBalls will face team BD at 6:30, and at 8:00 the Hell Cats make their week 8 debut against team Young Guns & Then Some. The last game on Thursday happens at the Kinsmen Field, the Deadly Diamonds will go toe to toe with the Jacs at 6:30.

The Northern Youth Softball Leagues Fastball Championship Tournament starts two weeks from today, with games being played in The Pas and OCN. There's a ten-team limit for both the men's and women's divisions, if you sign up a team and pay the $1000 entry fee you'll be guaranteed three games. The prizes are the same for both divisions: first place will take home $5000, second place wins $3000 and if your team places third the payout is $2000, however, keep in mind payouts will be based on the number of entries. The full deposit needs to be paid by Monday, July 15th. For more info, contact Byron Bignell at 204-978-1229, the draw for the tournament is July 17th at 6:00 P.M.   

If your child is looking to put in some work and level up their conditioning for the upcoming hockey season, the Norman Northstars have got you covered. Their camp starts in mid-August and is split into two parts, the first part begins on August 12th and runs till the 16th. The second part starts on August 19th and goes till the 23rd.
The camp is divided into multiple age categories:
For kids ages 7-9,  camp starts at 9:00 A.M and runs till 10:15 A.M.
For pre-teens (10-12) it begins at 10:30 A.M and runs till noon.
They have two sets of times for teenagers, teens ages 13-14 will be on the ice from 12:15 P.M. to 1:45 P.M. and for those ages 15 + there on ice session starts at 7:15 P.M and goes till 9:15 P.M.
They even offer goalie sessions which start at 6:00 P.M  and go till 7:00 P.M, all ages are welcome to take part.
All on-ice sessions will be run by head coach Justin Valentino and camp costs can be found on their registration form which is posted on their Facebook page. 

The Blizzard's exhibition schedule was released over the long weekend; the first game for your Blizzard will be an away game against the Dauphin Kings on Tuesday, September 3rd. The next day that same week, they'll host Swan Valley at the Roy H. Johnston Arena, and then on Friday, they travel down to Swan River to take on the Stampeders once again. The last two exhibition games will be against the Flin Flon Bombers. They play at home on September 11th, and then they travel down to Flin Flon on Friday the 13th.

 

Season Tickets are also available for purchase. For ages sixteen plus, they will cost $367.50, and for ages fifteen or lower, they will cost $236.25. They also offer flex passes, which get you 10 games. For ages sixteen plus, they will sell for $125, and for ages fifteen or lower, they will go for $80.
