OCN Blizzard Earn All 6 After 3 Game Road Trip

The OCN Blizzard had a successful trip to southern Manitoba over the weekend!

Friday

On Friday the team headed far south to face the Niverville Nighthawks, starting the night with a goal by Michael Hlady at the 12:36 mark in the first period to begin the night. The Nighthawks came back in the second period, putting pressure on the Blizzard throughout as Evan Bortis and Josh Paulhus pulled ahead to a 2-1 lead against the Blizzard. Michael Hlady tied things up early into the third period and the pressure was on for either team to pull ahead and win the night. Ethan Kelly later had enough of the OCN Blizzard and picked a fight, earning him 2 minutes in the box and allowing the Blizzard to advance on the net until Alex Bernauer to score, wrapping up the night 3-2 for the Blizzard

SATURDAY

Saturdays game was an absolute nail biter from start to finish. Michael Hlady opened up scoring at the 12:28 mark before Carter Cormier and Jacob Ziegler pushed ahead for the Steelers 2-1 at the end of the first period. The teams traded goals, with Eduard Wruck scoring his first goal as an OCN Blizzard and Cormier scoring his second of the game. After Ryan Monias scored a goal to pull into a 3-3 game it seemed Cormier had his eyes on the prize, earning a hat trick and forcing a tough decision. I may have only been with the Blizzard for two full seasons, but something I've never believed in was pulling the goalie as I've never once seen it work in person in any league or level. Nine out of ten times it doesn't work... well Saturday was the one of ten times as Ryan Monias scored with only 45 seconds to go and an empty Blizzard net. Drayden Kurbatoff and Ashton Paul scored two in a shootout to win the night 5-4 against the Steelers.

SUNDAY

Sunday's game couldn't have ended the weekend any better for the OCN Blizzard. Despite being on the third game of a 3 game road trip the Blizzard kept the pressure on  the Winnipeg Freeze the entire night.  Goals by Kieran Cooke and Ashton Paul in the first period and Ashton Cuvelier and Sam Zagari in the third ended the game 4-0 for the Blizzard.

They Face the Swan Valley Stampeders Wednesday at 7PM in Swan River.

The game started to look like their previous match up with no goals for the first half of the second period either. That is until Logan Walker was served a double minor for Kneeing and Jamie Valentino was sent to the box 8 seconds later for unsportsmanlike conduct. This gave Sebastian Hamming and Ryan Monias chances to dump the puck into the net in the 5v3.

The Kings fought back in the third period with a nearly empty net Ethan Williment scored the lone Kings goal. In the final minutes Ashton Paul was sent to the box for hooking and the Kings pulled goaltender Dmytro Kubritsky to force a 4 on 6 against the OCN Blizzard, which the team held their ground against to wrap up the night 2-1 for the Blizzard.
