OCN Blizzard Send Six To The Showcase

The OCN Blizzard have sent 6 of their players to the MJHL and SJHL Showcase.

The team is sending Captain Riley Zimmerman, forwards Alex Bernauer and Ashton Paul, defenseman Sebastian Hamming and goalies Chase Hamm and Ethan Farrow.

They head to Winnipeg to show potential future teams what they bring to the table tomorrow and February 1st.

Tough Battles in Dauphin

The OCN Blizzard had a tough weekend down in Dauphin. Darik Feasey and Michael Hlady opened up scoring in the first period to set ahead 2-0 heading into the second.

However the Kings seemed to have woken up in the remaining 40 minutes, tying the game at 2 all in the later half of the second period.

A shorthanded Nolan Wickham got around the Blizzard defence and with a clear shot on net pushed the Kings up 3-2 against the Blizzard 7 minutes in. A daring move from the bench as Dough Johnson pulled Ethan Farrow with 6 minutes to go in an attempt to force a 3-3 tie and potential overtime. The attempt was short lived as Alex Senf shot it in from across the ice. Later another Kings goal ended the night 5-2 for the Kings.

SUNDAY

Two nights later was a much closer and much different game. The entire first 40 minutes of play was goalless. Even despite 5v3 opportunities for both teams the goaltenders and defensemen on each team were putting in work and keeping the puck out of the net.

The third period is where all that changed for the teams. After a slashing call was served to Chase Hamm and served by Ashton Paul things got heated in the Blizzard zone. As Hamm went down the puck went up and the Kings scored their first goal of the night.

Despite an empty net goal the Blizzard fought back with only seconds to go after dual penalties. Pulling Hamm out of net once again Riley Zimmerman scored with 39 seconds left. A huge attempt was made by the team to even that score in the final seconds however the game would still end 2-1 for the Kings.

The Blizzard battle next the Virden Oil Capitals this Friday at 7PM in the GLMC.

OCN Blizzard Fall To The Stampeders Despite Impressive Comeback

On Tuesday the OCN Blizzard hosted the Swan Valley Stampeders in the 4th home game to take place over 2 weeks.

After a scoreless first period the Swan Valley Stampeders opened fire on Chase Hamm in the second period, scoring 5 goals in the 20 minutes. Ashton Paul scored the lone goal for the Blizzard during the second period to head into the third period 5-1. Ethan Farrow was put in net just before the final 2 minutes of the second period and it seemed to be the right decision.

Something you have to give these guys credit for is their resiliance. Despite heading into the final 20 minutes down 4 goals they fought back, and they fought back hard!

Riley Zimmerman, Darik Feasey and Alex Bernauer scored back to back to catch up 5-4 with 9 minutes and 39 seconds to go of the third. With a much closer game the teams fought hard and a decision was made to pull Farrow from the net and force a 6 on 5.

Unfortunately for the Blizzard this allowed Steven Arp and Trey Sauder to get two goals and end the game 7-4 for the Stampeders.

The Blizzard get a few days break before hitting the road with two games against Dauphin Friday and Sunday.

OCN Blizzard Earned 5 of 6 Points Over The Weekend

The OCN Blizzard had a successful weekend at home that brought them back up to the top of the MGEU West Division. On Friday the team faced off against the Selkirk Steelers, wasting no time before opening fire on goaltender Hunter Tarves. Ryan Monias opened up scoring just three minutes and 53 seconds into the first period. That goal remained the loan goal until Lucas Brennan tied the game 10 minutes later, only for Ashton Paul to answer with another Blizzard goal 70 seconds later.

The Second period went by much faster with only one penalty to both teams and a lone goal by Steelers Lucas Gillson that tied the game 2 all heading into the third period.

The Tension was huge heading into the third period with 3 penalties and a double minor penalty all being issued at the 9:40 mark. OCN Blizzard Michael Hlady was the lone scorer that pushed things ahead this period, with two goals to wrap up the night 4-2 against the Steelers.

OCN VS PORTAGE

Despite not winning the delayed overtime game the Blizzard came back swinging during the full 60 minutes of play that followed. Gavin Klaassen scored for the Terriers with the lone first period goal, with an assist from former OCN Blizzard Brock McDonald.

Alex Bernauer scored half way through the second period, tying things up for a few minutes before Ryan Botterill got one past Chase Hamm to push the Terriers ahead 2-1 before heading into the final 20 minutes of play.

Probably the most impressive comeback I have seen this season as newly acquired Darik Feasey pushed one past Bailey Monteiths foot and into the net. It's also worth noting this is Darik's 3rd game as an OCN Blizzard and his second goal since making his debut on Tuesday against the Kings. Just shy of 3 minutes later John Kremer scored to push past a potential overtime and force Portage to make a tough decision in the final minutes of play. Now with an empty net and 6 on 5 on the ice Chase Hamm blocked another shot before getting the puck to Michael Hlady who dumped it into the empty net on the other side and wrapped up the game 5-2 against Portage.

The Blizzard sit on top of the MGEU West Division with 49 points this season, a 2 point lead from a 3 way tie for second place for Waywayseecappo, Dauphin and Swan Valley. The team is back in action tomorrow at the Gordon Lathlin Memorial Center when they host the Swan Valley Stampeders in interdivision play.

The team gets a few days break before facing off against the Portage Terriers on Saturday.

OCN Storm Win in Overtime

The OCN Storm had a tough battle against the Cross Lake Islanders over the weekend. Wilfred McLeod opened up scoring for the Islanders, Followed by Troy Head pushing back for the Storm with a goal two minutes later to tie the game. the tie was short lived as Bobby Orr-Roulette scored only 11 seconds later, Pushing the Islanders ahead 2-1 at the end of the first period.

The second period was nearly scoreless until Drew Peters scored his first of the game with only 28 seconds left, assisted by Troy Head and tying the game 2 all.

Things remained even in the third period, with both teams scoring 2 goals, Harlan Jacobson score his first goal of the night and 22nd goal of the season. Drew Peters scored his 5th goal as an OCN Storm and second of the night to push ahead 4-3. At the 7:16 mark Dreydn Robinson scored for the Islanders, tying the game once again at 4-4 and forcing an overtime.

Less than 15 seconds in and with a 1 man advantage Troy Head got the puck past Jaydin Burge, ending the game 5-4 for the Storm.
