Final Week To Register For The Pas Minor Baseball and Soccer

It's the final week to register your child for The Pas Minor Soccer or Baseball.

 

The Deadline is this Friday April 28th by the end of the day.

 

Volunteers are welcomed and encouraged sign up as well. The cost is $35 per child, registration can be done at the Kelsey Recreation and Wellness Centre.

The Pas Slo-Pitch League Executive Meeting Tonight

As more snow continues to melt things are heating up with The Pas Slo-Pitch League.

 

Tonight at 7PM the league will be having a meeting at A&W to work out the final details before registration begins.

 

Anyone interested in helping to run the league this year is welcome to attend.

 

The season is set to begin sometime in the middle of May.

Baseball Manitoba Joins The Kelsey Rec Centre

The Kelsey Rec-Centre has teamed up with Baseball Manitoba for a newly revamped baseball program for all ages in the tri community

 

Registration deadline is May 12th for Age groups U7 to U18, with the season to start in May or June with rep team tryouts to attend provincial tournaments scheduled if enough interest is shown.

 

Volunteers are also needed for coaches and umpire’s more information can be found by calling the Kelsey  Rec- centre at 204-627-1134 or emailing rec.wellness@townofthepas.ca

OCN Storm Bring Home Gold

The OCN Storm came out on top in Thunder bay Ontario by beating the Schreiber Falcons 6 – 3 claiming the Central Canada Cup for the top junior b hockey team in Midwestern Canada.

 

The Storm will be celebrating the win this evening at 530 at the GLMC with a free BBQ, compliments from the Opaskwayak Chief and Council, more details can be found on the OCN Storms Facebook page.

The OCN Storm Are in Ontario Today

The OCN Storm are in Thunder Bay for the Central Canada Cup. This morning they faced the Schreiber Falcons, ending the game in a 2 goal tie.

 

Round Robin action continues today before the semi-finals kick off tomorrow, followed by the championship game Sunday.

Virden Beats Out Portage

The Virden oil capitals have advanced to the MJHL finals.

 

After a 3-2 2nd overtime win over the Portage Terriers the Virden Oil Capitals now get ready to face off against the Steinbach Pistons. A full schedule of the best of 7 series is yet to be announced as of writing.

There Was a Badminton Tournament in Swan River Over The Weekend

19 Athletes from MBCI badminton team competed in a tournament in Swan River over the weekend. OCN, Ethelbert, Flin Flon, Rorketon, Roblin and The Pas all participated in the tournament. The athletes competed in all three events. Singles, doubles and mixed doubles.

 

8 MBCI athletes advanced to the playoffs in singles,  Jaxen, Brady, Dylan, Isaac,Zoe ,D’Anna Patience & Yola.

 

Isaac Tomchak was the overall champion of the JV boys singles events, winning all 10 sets he played .

 

18 of the 19 MBCI athletes advanced to the playoffs in the doubles.

 

Sarah Forward and Zoe Cook were the JV Girls champions in doubles event, winning all 8 sets they played.

 

Oscar Lathlin Collegiate had 4 wins in the single division, falling just shy of playoff contention.

OCN Blizzard Player Awards

The OCN Blizzard wrapped up their season with their annual awards banquette on the 8th.

CJAR would like to wish all the players a happy off season, and best of luck to all the 20 year olds graduating to the college levels this year!

The Boys Fought Hard in Game 5

The OCN Storm fought hard on Friday in the final game of the KJHL Playoffs but in the end the Juniors won the cup.

 

After a scoreless first period for the Storm Damon Constant scored the lone second period goal for the team.

 

Ezekiel Kirkness and Drew Peters scored one and Blaine Dorion scored two, closing the gap from a 5-1 lead for the Juniors to a 8-5 lead before the end of the game and end of the KJHL Playoffs.

 

The Storm aren't done quite yet however as they're getting ready to head to Thunder Bay to play in the Central Canada Cup on Wednesday.

The Pas Skating Club Year End Review

The Pas Skating Club will be hosting their Year End Review this weekend. Saturday at 1PM you can skate through the decades at the Roy H Johnston Arena. There will be a silver collection at the door as well as a 50/50 draw and raffle, plus a whole lot of fun to end the season.

A Fast Pitch Clinic is Coming To Town

Fast pitch clinics are coming to The Pas later this month. hosted by The Pas Metis Region there will be a coaching clinic April 29th from 9-4 PM at the Pas Friendship Centre.

 

A day later a Skills Clinic will be held at the Kelsey Community School Gym from 10-3 PM for ages 18 and under. Both Clinics are Free and open for everyone but you must register ahead of the event by visiting www.MASRC.com/events.

OCN Storm Hand Peguis Their First Loss of The Playoffs

The OCN Storm handed the Peguis Juniors their first loss of the playoffs over the weekend. Ezekiel Kirkness scored the game winning overtime goal on Friday, pushing the Storm to a 5-4 victory in the game.

 

On Saturday despite an even first period with two goals from Drew Peters who earned a hat trick in the third and a scoreless second period the Peguis Juniors pulled ahead 7-5 in the third.

 

The Storm now have a tough battle ahead of them as the Juniors lead 3-1 in the series. Game 5 takes place this Friday at 7:30 in the GLMC.

Green Shirt Day is Tomorrow

Tomorrow is Green Shirt Day across Canada. It was 5 years ago today, April 6th 2018 that a semi collided with a bus carrying the SJHL’s Humboldt Broncos, killing sixteen and wounding 13 others. A day later Logan Boulet, a player who was on the bus also passed while sparking a movement for organ donation that still continues today.

 

Since then the nation has remembered the many lives affected every year by leaving hockey sticks outside, wearing green or participating in the Logan Boulet Effect.

 

You can participate in the Logan Boulet Effect by signing up to be an organ donor at www.signupforlife.ca and spreading awareness on social media using the hashtags #GreenShirtDay or #LoganBouletEffect.

The OCN Storm are Headed to Peguis, and You Could Too

The OCN Storm are getting ready for another weekend in the KJHL finals.

 

The Storm fell 2-0 last weekend in the opening weekend against the Peguis Juniors but are looking to tie things up tomorrow and Saturday in Peguis.

 

There will be a charter bus for 55 OCN Band Members who would like to attend Saturday's game. The bus leaves at noon and will return immediately after the game.

 

The puck drops at 7:30 PM both days.

The Pas Skating Club Year End Review

The Pas Skating Club is having their year-end review this month. The event takes place April 16th at 1PM in the Roy H Johnson Arena.

 

There will be silver collection at the door, a 50/50 draw and a raffle prize for those who attend.

 

This year's theme is "skating through the decades."

OCN Storm Drop First Two Against Peguis

The OCN Storm had a few close games over the weekend.

 

Lazarus Constant scored two on saturday while Harlan Jacobson and Ezekiel Kirkness both scored two on Sunday but the Storm fell 8-6 and 5-4 against the Juniors.

 

They'll get a few days off before heading down to Peguis to face them again this Friday and Saturday at 7:30.

The OCN Blizzard Are Out of The Playoffs

The OCN Blizzard had a rough weekend against the Virden Oil Capitals.

 

After a 2-1 on Friday and 3-2 loss on Sunday the OCN Blizzard have been eliminated from the Playoffs.

 

The Jersey Auction for your favourite players not graduating the JR A level continues until the end of the day tomorrow. See you next year boys!
