Days Seven and Eight of Opaskwayak Indigenous Days will be happening this weekend, which means there are only two days left to either check out or take part in one of the many remaining sporting events.

To kick off Saturday, a 4-Man Golf Tournament will be happening all day at Halcrow Lake Golf and Country Club. At 8:30 a.m., the long-distance foot race will kick off at the Otineka Mall. Starting at 9:00 a.m. at various soccer fields across the community, the Harriet Constant and Irvin Constant Soccer Tournament will also get underway.

At 10:00 a.m., the AFC Memorial Basketball Tournament will wrap up its remaining games at the OLC gymnasium. Shortly after, at 10:30 a.m., the Canoe Classic will get underway at the OID Park.

At the Arbour Site, the George Flett Memorial Horseshoe Tournament will start ramping up around noon. Lastly, flour packing will be going on at the Casino starting around 5:00 p.m. for those looking to test their strength and balance.

Moving on to sporting events happening Sunday, the remaining tournaments will continue throughout the day.

Much like Saturday, the 4-Man Golf Tournament will get the day going, starting at 8:00 a.m. Then, at 9:00 a.m., the Harriet and Irvin Constant Soccer Tournament will continue, followed by the youth soccer tournament at 10:00 a.m.

At noon, more horseshoe action will take place at the Arbour Site. Lastly, at 4:00 p.m., an adult fishing derby will be held at both the OCN Riverside and OID Park.

Day Six of Opaskwayak Indigenous Days is here, and a whole slew of sporting events will be running throughout the day.

As an ongoing reminder, all entry fees must be paid at OID Headquarters, and receipts must be shown before entering events.

The two-man golf tournament will run throughout most of the day at Halcrow Lake Golf and Country Club.

At 10:00 a.m., the first race of the day will take place at the Joe A. Ross School track with the Nathan McGillivary Youth Relay. Other races happening at the same time include the Angel Races at the Veterans’ Hall and the Children’s Races at Pike Race.

Also getting underway around 10:00 a.m. is the Co-Ed Slo-Pitch Tournament, with games being played at the three main baseball diamonds in town.

Not long after, at 10:30 a.m., the Canoe Classic will kick off at the O.I.D. Park.

Once noon rolls around, the AFC Memorial Basketball Tournament will continue at the OLC gymnasium. At 1:00 p.m., the Youth Soccer Tournament will get underway at the Arbour Site.

Lastly, a shotgun shoot will take place at 2:00 p.m. at Pike Lake for all the marksmen and markswomen looking to test their skills.

It’s Day Five of Opaskwayak Indigenous Days, which means there are only a few days left to check out or compete in some of the sporting events happening throughout the remainder of the week.

As always, both the Angel and Children’s Races will kick off the morning at 10:00 a.m. The Angel Races will be held at the Veterans’ Hall, while the Children’s Races will take place at the Big Eddy Soccer Field.

The AFC Memorial Basketball Tournament will also get underway around the same time at the Oscar Lathlin Collegiate gymnasium.

A little later, at 1:00 p.m., co-ed volleyball will begin at the OLC gymnasium.

Lastly, a strongman/strongwoman competition will get underway at 3:00 p.m. at the GLMC. Entry fees can be paid at the OCN Payment Centre. Participants must bring their receipts if they plan on taking part in the competition.

Today marks day four of Opaskwayak Indigenous Days, and sporting events are still going strong across the community.

A few races will take place this morning, beginning at around 10:00 a.m. The Angel Races will be held at the Veterans Hall, while the children’s races will take place at the O.I.D. Park.

The next set of activities will move to Pike Lake, where canoe races will take place. Races for children and teens will kick off at 2:30 p.m., followed by the adult races at 5:00 p.m.

Boys and girls ages 12 to 16 have the chance to develop their volleyball skills at UCN’s Volleyball Camp at The Pas campus, running from August 24th-28th. The camp costs $30 per person, with a maximum of 24 boys and 24 girls participating.

There are two 2-hour-long volleyball sessions per day, per group. Girls’ sessions will run from 1:00 - 3:00 PM and 6:00 - 8:00 PM, and the boys’ sessions are 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM and 4:00 - 6:00 PM. Tournaments will be held on Friday night for participants to demonstrate the volleyball technique they've learned, while giving them a chance to compete.

Starting at around 9:30 a.m. at the Jake Constant Bus Garage, the O.I.D Bike Race will take place for those who registered. Race times will vary depending on the division, with registration opening at 8:30 a.m. this morning.

Other races will be taking place at 10:00 a.m. The Angel Races will be set up at the Veterans’ Hall, while the Children’s Races will take place at the Big Eddy Soccer Field.

Lastly, the adult division of the ball hockey tournament will be wrapping up its games today at the Oscar Lathlin Collegiate gymnasium.

Today is officially the second day of Opaskwayak Indigenous Days, and here are some of the sporting events taking place across OCN.

Starting at 9:00 a.m. at the Veterans’ Hall, pre-elder and elder races will take place. Then, at 9:30 a.m., there will be a 50+ mountain bike race. Registration will happen on site at the Veterans’ Hall with Mariola Head.

Children’s races will be running throughout the week at various locations across OCN. This morning at around 10:00 a.m, they’ll be set up at the OID Park.

Also happening this morning are the Angel Races at the Veterans’ Hall, which will also begin at 10:00 a.m.

Lastly, the O.I.D. Ball Hockey Tournament starts up today at the Oscar Lathlin Collegiate gymnasium. Today, the youth division will be playing their games and competing for one of three cash prizes, while the adult division will begin play tomorrow.

Sunday, Aug. 9, marks the official start of Opaskwayak Indigenous Days, with a couple of sporting events set to kick off the week.

Beginning at 9 a.m., a Children's and Youth Triathlon will take place at the O.I.D. Park. Registration will be available on site. For more information, call 431-355-1756.

Starting next week, a wide range of sporting events will take place during Opaskwayak Indigenous Days.

The O.I.D Soccer Tournament was announced Wednesday night, and participants looking to put together a team have until Aug. 12 to register before games kick off next weekend.

There will be both men's and women's divisions, with cash prizes awarded to the teams that finish first through third.

The entry fee is $600 per team. E-transfers can be sent to accounts.recieveable@opaskwayak.ca. In the message box, include your team name. The tournament draw will also take place on Aug. 12.

The Pas Minor Hockey is currently looking for house league coaches and conveners ahead of the upcoming hockey season.

On Friday, August 14th, during Opaskwayak Indigenous Days, the Nathan McGillivary Sr. Memorial Youth Relay Race will take place at Joe A. Ross School's outdoor track.

This event is open to youth ages 12–17. To compete, each team must consist of two males and two females.

Registration will take place on the morning of the race from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., with the race beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the teams that place 1st through 6th. Trophies and individual awards will also be presented to the top standout racers.

A few announcements were made last week surrounding your Northern Manitoba Blizzard.

First up, on Friday, the Blizz made another trade ahead of the upcoming season. Liam Carlone, a 2006-born forward formerly of the Winkler Flyers, will now be suiting up for Northern Manitoba. In return, the Flyers received a player development fee (PDF) and 2007-born defenceman Seth Quayle. Carlone is coming off two stellar seasons with Winkler and even served as the team's assistant captain during his tenure.

The Blizz continue to get better ahead of training camp, which is set to begin later this month. This past weekend, the team released its full training camp schedule and highlighted two games that will be played during this month. The camp will feature open practices as well as competitive scrimmages. More information can be found on the team's official Facebook page.

One last reminder from the Blizz: they only have a limited number of spots remaining for their upcoming hockey school, which is set to kick off on August 18. There are currently nine spots available in the U7 and U9 program and just three spots remaining in the U11 program.
