Hockey Manitoba Return to Play Update Jan 27th

Current public health orders in Manitoba will continue until Friday February 12, 2021 when the situation will be reviewed again. As a result, hockey teams and individuals in areas under Critical level (Red) restrictions are currently ineligible to play.

If the province enters code Orange, Associations, Leagues, and Teams will be required to enter phase 2 of the return to play plan. Phase two consists of drills and other non contact skills developments and will take effect once granted approval from Hockey Manitoba. Leagues may be able to return to regular play by the beginning of March if restrictions are lifted.

NHL Waiting on Manitoba's Approval for Canadian Division

Manitoba is currently the lone province not to grant final approval for the NHL's all-Canadian division.

However acting deputy chief public health officer Doctor Jazz Atwal said yesterday that Manitoba is “confident things will move ahead as planned” during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ontario, Quebec, B-C and Alberta have already given their respective teams approval to play at home. The N-H-L season begins January 13th.

MJHL Looking at Potential Restart

The MJHL is looking at a potential restart to the season for 2021-22. In Early October hockey across the province was brought to a hault due to Covid-19 concerns.

On January 8th the Manitoba government is expected to make an announcement lifting most of the province from code red to code orange.

If the MJHL is given the go ahead the new season could start as early as mid February.
