The OCN Storm Had a Close Weekend Against the Juniors

A Rough weekend for the OCN Storm  as they hit the road against the Peguis Juniors. Saturdays game wrapped up with a 5-3 loss to the Juniors with goals scored by Roger Houle Jr.,Troy Head and Chavez Constant for the storm.

 

On sunday both teams were on fire with 21 goals scored in total, Peguis however scored the most with 11 goals against the Storms 10.

OCN Blizzard Have Another 4 Point Weekend

The OCN Blizzard came out of the weekend with another 4 points added to their total.

 

After a 5-2 victory over the Winnipeg Freeze and 6-3 victory over the Selkirk Steelers the OCN Blizzard get some much deserved time off before hosting the Winkler Flyers on Friday.

 

The team continues to dominate the West division, sitting at 27 points in 19 games this season, 7 points ahead of the second place Dauphin kings.

Margaret Barbour Varsity Girls Volleyball Invitational Results

The Hapnot Kopper Queens emerged victorious during the Margaret Barbour Varsity Girls Volleyball Invitational over the weekend. Battling through the tournament they faced the Oscar Lathlin Wolverines in the finals on saturday. The Kopper Queens Beat out the Wolverines 25-17 and 25-19.

OCN Blizzards This Weekend Beginning Tonight

The OCN Blizzard hopes to get win the 2 games they'll play this weekend.

 

Starting tonight they'll be hosting the Winnipeg Freeze at 7 PM

Saturday night they'll be taking on the Selkirk Steelers at 7 PM

 

Tonight the boys will be wearing their pink jerseys, bidding ends tomorrow at 8 PM.

Margaret Barbour Varsity Girls Volleyball Invitational Takes Place Today and Tomorrow

The Margaret Barbour Varsity Girls Volleyball Invitational takes place today and tomorrow at MBCI.

 

Pool one consists of the Oscar Lathlin Wolverines, Frontier Raiders, Margaret Barbour Spartans and Creighton.

 

Pool two includes the Hapnot Kopper Queens, The Mikisew Mikisew and the Grand Rapids Wolverines. The Tournament will be played in a round robin format.

 

First the Oscar Lathlin Wolverines face the Frontier Raiders followed by a match against the MBCI Spartans.

The Pas Curling Club Registration

The Pas Curling club is still taking registration forms and curling fees through the rest of the week.

 

Today and tomorrow those interested in curling at any level can head to the Rink above the Roy H Johnston Arena from 6:30PM - 7:15PM.

The Pas Slow Pitch League's President Steps Down

The Pas Slo-Pitch Leagues President is stepping down.

 

Erik Bignell served as the leagues president for two years, organizing tournaments and the regular season.

 

Erik said it was a journey and a short 2 years but it was an experience for sure.

 

A new president will be chosen before the next year kicks off at the leagues AGM.

OCN Blizzard Announce First Three Players for the MJHL Skills Competition.

The OCN Blizzard have chosen their first three prospects for the first ever MJHL Top Prospects Showcase.

 

Goalie Chase Hamm, local product Ashton Paul and captain Riley Zimmerman will head to Portage La Prairie on November 15th and 16th.

 

The remainder of the roster will be announced at a later date.

OCN Storm Fall to the Norway House North Stars

The OCN Storm had a tough battle against the Norway House North Stars over the weekend.

 

Keeping pace diromg the first period the OCN Storm went into the second period one goal ahead the North stars at 6-5.

 

During the second the North Stars pulled head, scoring 4 of 5 goals scored during the period.

 

Despite goals from Richard Ducharme and Chavez Constant the North Stars continued to pull ahead and wrap up the game 9-14.

OCN Blizzard Come Home With A Pair of Wins

The OCN Blizzard are back home after winning two on the road over the weekend.

 

On Friday the OCN Blizzard had a rematch against the Winkler Flyers and it was a close battle throughout all 60 minutes. After a scoreless first period Alex Bernaur opened up scoring early into the second period and the Flyers answered with less than 30 seconds of the period to even the score. Mike Svenson and Dalton Andrew scored two more for Winkler to pull ahead 3-1 before Sam Zagari raced to the net and score the OCN Blizzards second goal just 18 seconds later. With less than 5 minutes to go Miguel Bouvier forced the game into overtime with a 3-3 tie, which was ended by Ashton Paul two minutes and 23 seconds into overtime.

 

on Saturday The OCN Blizzard faced off against the Winnipeg Freeze for the first time this season. The Freeze, including ex OCN Blizzard Briggs Jowet opened up scoring with a goal from Elliot Pereault in the first period after 4 minutes of play. The Blizzard answer back with another quick goal by Sam Zagari only 36 seconds later. During the second period the Freeze kept the pressure on the OCN Blizzard, catching up with 14 shots on goal. Despite constant pressure Matthew Langdon scored the only goal of the second period, allowing the Blizzard to pull ahead 2-1. Something must have happened in the dressing room during the second intermission because it felt like the OCN Blizzard emerged ready to take it all the way. Ashton Paul opened up scoring, pulling ahead before Eric Mork narrowed the gap with the final Freeze goal of the night. Keenan McNeill, Alex Bernauer and John Kremer each scored to wrap up the game 6-2 for the Blizzard and push the win streak to 8 games.

 

Sundays game saw a franchise first as the OCN Blizzard headed to Niverville to face ex OCN Blizzard Brett Tataryn and the brand new Nighthawks. Unfortunately all good things must come to an end as the OCN Blizzard battled hard the entire night. Despite a 2 goal lead heading into the second a series of double minor and minor penalties would cost the Blizzard the lead tying the game 4 all heading into the third period. An overtime period was in sight during the third after Michael Hlady scored his second of the night. But the Nighthawks scored two back to back goals at the 14:48 and 15:55 mark to pull ahead of the Blizzard  7-5.

 

The team is off Monday but will be back to hosting games at the Gordon Lathlin Memorial Centre Tuesday against the Dauphin Kings.

The OCN Blizzard Have a 3-Day Road Trip

The OCN Blizzard are on the road this weekend for 3 games starting tonight against the Winkler Flyers.

 

The pre-game is at 6:45 pm with puck drop at 7. Tomorrow the Blizzard visit the Winnipeg Freeze with the pre-game at 5:45 pm and the game starting at 6 pm.

 

Then Sunday, the Blizzard travel to Niverville to take on the Nighthawks with the pregame show at 2:45 pm and puck drop at 3 pm.

OCN Blizzard Get National Recognition

The OCN Blizzard have been making strides this season and other people are starting to notice. The Canadian Junior Hockey League named their top 20 teams across the nation.

 

The Portage Terriers came 7th, Steinbach Pistons 9th and the OCN Blizzard came 21st with an honorable mention.

 

The team will be out on the ice this weekend when they head to Winnipeg to face the Winkler Flyers, Winnipeg Freeze and Niverville Nighthawks starting on Friday.

Injury Causes Game Against Terriers To Be Suspended

The OCN Blizzard had a great start to the weekend with a 5-2 win over the Winnipeg blues on Friday. The team was on fire with 55 shots during the game.

 

On Saturday Alex Bernauer tied things up with the Portage Terriers with 10 minutes to go, forcing an overtime. However after Drayden Kurbatoff was knocked unconscious after the third overtime minute the game has been suspended until a later date.

 

The remaining 2 minutes and 48 seconds will be played prior to the teams next matchup. Kurbatoff is expected to make a full recovery.

OCN Blizzard Games This Weekend

The OCN Blizzard begin a two night homestand at the Gordon Lathlin Memorial Centre tonight.

 

Starting the weekend off with a game against the Winnipeg Blues, a team they faced last month.

 

Puck drop tonight is 7PM followed by another 7PM puck drop tomorrow against the Portage Terriers. CJAR will only be broadcasting tomorrow's game.

The Pas Curling Club Begins Soon

The Pas Curling Club held their Annual General Meeting last night. The season kicks off october 24th and will run Monday to Friday in the evenings. If you are looking for a team or to register can contact The Pas Curling Club on Facebook.

OCN Blizzard Continue to Impress

The OCN Blizzard remain on top of the west after a trio of wins over the weekend and Tuesday night.

 

Sitting at 17 points this season the team has a 5 point lead over the second place Waywayseecappo Wolverines at 12 points.

 

Last night the OCN Blizzard played their first home game since September, Welcoming the Swan Valley Stampeders to the GLMC. It was a goal filled night with goals by Alex Bernaur, Keenan McNeill, Riley Zimmerman, Myles Mason, Miguel Bouvier and Drew Peters to end the night 5-1 for the Blizzard.

 

Next up they face the Winnipeg Blues on Friday followed by the Portage Terriers Saturday.

Blizzard Games This Weekend

The OCN Blizzard will be all over Manitoba this weekend. They'll be facing two teams for the first time this year with plenty of miles put on the bus.

 

Today The Blizzard will be in Waywayseecappo to face the Wolverines. on Saturday  they head further south to face the Virden Oil Capitals. Both games start at 7:30 PM and will not be broadcasted by CJAR.

Le Pas de Danse Studio has introduced Dance Days in Flin Flon. A 25 week long class to get your little ones moving.

 

Kids aged 3 to 5 can be registered for Kinderdance

 

Ages 5 and up can be registered for Lyrical dance

 

 Ages 6 and up can be registered Acro Dance.

OCN Blizzard Stay on Top of the Titans

After a rough road trip in Winnipeg the OCN Blizzard came back with a pair of wins in Neepawa last weekend. The Team fought hard, earning 5 of 6 points against the Neepawa Titans while showcasing recent trades.

 

On Friday captain Riley Zimmerman and Michael Hlady scored the Blizzards two lone goals during power plays in the first period. Despite Mason Lobreau getting absolutely peppered by shots from the Blizzard the Titans held their ground until they scored the lone shootout goal, taking Friday nights win.

 

Saturday was a much different game as the OCN Blizzard came back with a vengeance and boy did they come back hard.

 

Zimmerman opened up the scoring with a powerplay goal a minute and 47 seconds into the first period, Drew peters followed half way through the period. Cade Bendtsen scored the lone Titan goal after the Titans successfully put pressure on the Blizzard through a Blizzard powerplay and minutes after.

 

Into the second period local product Ashton Paul scored during a power play top push away any hopes of a tie for the Titans. In the final seconds of the period Sebastian Hamming scored his first goal as a Blizzard and the last goal of the night with only 11 seconds to go before the buzzer.

 

On Sunday both teams hit the ice after seeing what each really bring to the table, resulting in a 2 goal tie with OCN goals from Matthew Langdon and Sebastian Hamming.

 

With 47 seconds to go into the overtime period Captain Riley Zimmerman scored his third goal of the weekend and 9th of the season, finishing the game 3-2 for the Blizzard.
