OCN Blizzard Weekend Recap

The OCN Blizzard tied the weekend when they faced the Winnipeg Blues over the weekend. Starting with a 3-2 win in Winnipeg on Friday the blues came back to tie the weekend with a 5-0 win over the Blizzard on Saturday. Both teams will see different opponents this weekend, with the Blizzard will face the Portage Terriers Friday and Saturday evenings at the GLMC.

 

Tough Challenge Ahead for the OCN Blizzard

The OCN Blizzard have a tough challenge this weekend when they face the overall 2nd place Winnipeg Blues in Winnipeg starting later today.

 

The Blizzard suffered back to back losses earlier this week during the MJHL showcase against the Freeze and Terriers.

 

A win tonight could bring the blizzard back into 3rd place in the west division. Puck drop is at 7:30 PM today and tomorrow.

Le Pas De Danse Studio Offering Trial Period Before the Hollidays

Le Pas De Danse Studio has four weeks of classes left until the holidays. Right now they’re still taking in new students and offering a trial period at $40 for the remaining four weeks for all dance styles including hip-hop, modern dance, ballet, acrobatic and early childhood and newborn classes. Wescanna Inn U13 Hockey Tournament Results

Teams from northern Manitoba competed throughout the weekend in the Wescanna Inn U13 Hockey Tournament.

 

After 3 days of play the Dauphin Kings took first in the A division while the Thompson King Miners took first in the AA division. The Pas Huskies came 3rd in both divisions.

OCN Blizzard Solidify Third Place in the West Division

The OCN Blizzard opened up the Gordon Lathlin Memorial Centre last week with a pair of wins to put the team in 3rd place in the west division.

 

Thursday’s game wrapped up with a score of 5-3 to open up the GLMC with goals scored by Riley Zimmerman, Mike Hlady, Bryden Sinclair, Brett Tataryn and Drayden Kurbatoff.

 

On Friday the Virden Oil Capitals picked up the pieces as both teams held their ground until overtime. Even while down a player for nearly half of the second period due to back to back penalties the OCN Blizzard held their ground. Penalties served by Riley Zimmerman (interference,) Steven Bacovsky (butt ending 4 min) served by Drew Peters and a hooking penalty to Raj Gill a second after Stevens penalty was served.

 

Goals during regular play were scored exclusively during the second period. The OCN Blizzard scored a goal 3 minutes into the period thanks to Mike Hlady’s goal assisted by Guerin Apperley and Riley Zimmerman. 3 minutes later Dylan Halliday tied the game with a power play goal.

 

With the game now in overtime a surrounded and cornered Brock MacDonald passed the puck to Drayden Kurbatoff, who passed it to an open Raj Gill scoring the game winning goal for the Blizzard.

 

They hit the ice again today in the MJHL showcase at 4:30PM to face the Portage Terrier’s, followed by a game tomorrow against the Winnipeg Freeze at 10:30 am.

Wescanna Inn U13 Tournament Begins Today

The Wescanna Inn U13 hockey tournament kicks off this afternoon at 1:30 in the Roy H Johnston Arena.

 

First to hit the Ice the Pas Huskies go up against the Dauphin Kings.

 

The tournament continues Saturday and wraps up Sunday with the top two teams of the A and A1 divisions fighting for the top spot in those divisions.

OCN Blizzard Start Back at the Gordon Lathlin Memorial Centre With a Win

The OCN Blizzard celebrated the re-opening of the Gordon Lathlin Memorial Centre with a win on home ice last night against the Virden Oil Capitals.

 

Riley Zimmerman, Mike Hlady and Bryden Sinclair each scored a goal during the first period to bring the game to a 3-0 start for the Blizzard.

 

In the second period Riley Zimmerman scored his 9th goal of the season, assisted by Briggs Jowett and Brett Tataryn wrapping up the period 4-0 for the Blizzard.

 

The Oil Capitals bit back during the third period with a pair of goals in the middle of the period by Jackson Orr and Evan Groening. Drayden Kurbatoff wrapped up the game with the final goal assisted by Brock MacDonald with a minute and five seconds left of the game bringing the final score to 5-2 for the blizzard.

 

They face the Oil Capitals again tonight at 7PM in a fight to solidify third place in the west division. Both teams are tied at 17 points. Tonight’s game will also be broadcasted starting at 6:45 right here on 102.9 CJAR.

Norman Masters Aquatic Club First Thursday Meeting Today

The Norman masters Aquatic Club begins sessions today at 7:30PM. Members must bring a suitable lap swim bathing suit and towel, with goggles and swim caps recommended.

 

Masks and Proof of vaccination is required. Those who signed up for Saturday sessions will meet at 9:30 AM.

OCN Blizzard Return To The GLMC Today

The second half of the series against the Virden Oil Capitals begins tonight at the Gordon Lathlin Memorial Centre. Tonight’s game is the first game for the blizzard at the GLMC since the league shut down in October of 2020 due to covid-19.

 

Puck drop is at 7PM. Game 4 against the Oil Capitals goes tomorrow at 7PM also at the GLMC and will be broadcasted by CJAR starting at 6:45

Norman Masters Aquatic Club Registration Extended

The Norman Master’s Aquatic Club begins sessions this week. Due to popular demand registration is still available at the Kelsey rec and wellness centre.

 

Options are available for Thursday evenings from 7:30-8:30 and Saturday mornings from 9:30-10:30, or both. Registration costs $140 for one sesseion a week or $220 for both. The new registration deadline is before Thursday at 7:00pm.

OCN Blizzard Tie Weekend Series Against Virden Oil Capitals

The OCN Blizzard tied the first half of the series when they faced the Virden Oil Capitals last weekend. With a goal scored by Riley Zimmerman and a pair of goals by Raj Gill to start the series with a 3-2 win over the oil capitals on Friday.

 

The Blizzard fell 4-1 on Saturday with Riley Zimmerman scoring the only goal for the blizzard Assisted by Michael Hlady and Bryden Sinclair in the 2nd period. They face the Oil Capitals again this Thursday and Friday on their home ice at the Gordon Lathlin Memorial Centre.

Final Days to Register for the Norman Masters Aquatic Club

Only a few spots remain to register for the Norman Masters Aquatic Club.

 

The clubs first meeting will be Monday November 15th, followed by every Thursday and/or Saturday after that until June 18th, with options to register for either or both days. To register, fill out a form available at the Kelsey Recreation and Wellness Centre.

OCN Blizzard Head to Virden for Back to Back Games

The OCN Blizzard are on the road to Virden to face the Oil Capitals in back to back games this weekend.

 

The first game starts today (friday) at 7:30 PM with another game Saturday at 7:30 pm, both at the Tundra Oil and Gas Place.

 

The Blizzard have regained their footing in recent weeks after earning 6 points in the series against The Neepawa Titans. A win tonight could tie the blizzard with Virden and Swan Valley for third place in the West with 15 points.

Gordon Lathlin Memorial Centre Back Up and Running

Ice has returned to the Gordon Lathlin Memorial Centre! On Monday the OCN Blizzard returned to their home ice for the first time since late October of last year.

 

Fans can expect future Blizzard games to be taking place at the GLMC starting next week when the Virden Oil Capitals visit the Blizzard on November 18th and 19th.

OCN Blizzard Sweep the Titans While in Titan Territory

The OCN Blizzard win a set of games while in Neepawa this past weekend.

 

Fridays game was a nail-biter with only three goals scored throughout the game. Aaron Lorenz scored during the first period, assisted by Drayden Kurbatoff and Briggs Jewett. The second period had Brett Tataryn score a goal assisted by Riley Zimmerman. 

 

During the final 3 minutes of the third the Titans came back with a goal by Dallon Wilton. With a tie close at hand the Titans pulled goalie Gavin Renwick. Now 6 on 5 Cyrus Toth was sent to the box after a fight which resulted in a 4 on 6 battle for the Blizzard during the final minutes of play. 

 

Saturday the Titans kept the pressure on the entire game with a much different 32-17 shots on goal. Aaron Lorenz opened up the night with his 6th goal of the season assisted by Mike Hlady and Drayden Kurbatoff, only for Rylan Gudnason to tie the period with a minute and 15 seconds left.

 

The Second period was penalties filled, with four penalties being served by the Blizzard and five by the Titans. Jaeger Lapointe and Camden Smith served two of these penalties (cross checking and high sticking respectively) at the same time giving the OCN Blizzard a much needed 3 on 5 allowing Raj Gill to score his first goal of the season and as an OCN Blizzard assisted by Mike Hlady. Plus an earlier goal by Drayden Kurbatoff that was assisted by Mike Hlady the Blizzard ended the period in a tie.

 

A scoreless third period and overtime period resulted in a shootout, with 3/3 shots being blocked by Steven Bacovsky for the Blizzard. Captain Brayden Sinclair scored the fourth and final goal in the final round of the shootout. Wrapping up the series 3-1 for the Blizzard with two of those wins in Neepawa.

OCN Blizzard Jersey Fundraiser Results

Thanks to the fans the OCN Blizzard raised $5,050.00 with their first Halloween jersey auction this past weekend.

 

Social Media and Game Day Operations Coordinator Shawna Stevenson said there are two more jersey auctions on the way throughout the season.

 

Jersey winners were contacted Sunday, and will be contacted again throughout the week to organize a pickup time.

OCN Blizzard Tie First Half of the Series Against the Neepawa Titans.

The OCN Blizzard and Neepawa Titans tied the first half of the series last weekend. Blizzard forward Brock MacDonald scored two goals a minute and 8 seconds apart followed by an assist, while newly acquired goalie Steven Bacovsky stopped 45 of 48 shots on net Friday when the Blizzard won 6-3.

 

Sunday’s game had both teams serving multiple 4 minute penalties and equal opportunities on net however the Titans tied the series with a final score of 4-2 over the Blizzard.

OCN Storm Fell to the Peguis Juniors Last Weekend

The OCN Storm dropped a pair of games last weekend when they hosted the Peguis Juniors at the Roy H Johnston Arena. Saturday’s game had a hat trick from Chavez Constant in the third period as the Storm fell 9-6 to the Juniors.

 

Sunday’s game the Storm came in strong during the second period with 4 goals However the Juniors bit back in the third period wrapping the game up with a final score of 7-4 for the Juniors.
