OCN BLIZZARD Associate Head Coach/.Assistant General Manager RYAN WOOD INTERVIEW

Associate Head Coach and Assistant General Manager of the OCN Blizzard Ryan Wood is excited to be joining the OCN Blizzard coaching staff.
Ryan had the chance to chat with the NEW voice of the OCN Blizzard Ryan Schultz and talk some Blizzard hockey and the subtle differences between junior hockey in Ontario and junior hockey in Manitoba..

OCN Blizzard fans, mark your calendars. After a one year hiatus, the customary preseason showdown between the Flin Flon Bombers and OCN Blizzard is back.

The Bombers will have their final preseason matchup against the Blizzard Sept. 7, facing their northern and cross league rivals for the first time in two years.

The Blizzard and Bombers only meet in preseason games due to each being in separate leagues.

The two sides typically play a home-and-home series against each other every fall, but the series did not take place last year after Blizzard management deemed holding the series clashed with the team’s training camp schedule.

While the SJHL has not released a full regular season schedule for the upcoming season, the season traditionally starts in mid-September.

Leach is among 83 new appointees to the Order of Canada, in a list that includes scientists, health-care advocates, jurists, actors, athletes and public servants. They join nearly 7,000 people on the honor roll — “the elites that Canada has to offer,” Leach says — since its introduction more than five decades ago, including Leach’s relative, educator Rev. Frederic Leach.

Leach joins former Philadelphia Flyers teammate Bobby Clarke, in the Order of Canada. Leach is being honored for his work in promoting sport as a way to build healthy communities, part of his regular talks with Indigenous youth.

His NHL career started in the fall of 1970, three years after the Order of Canada was created in 1967 to mark Canada’s centenary.
