OCN Blizzard Come Home With A Pair of Wins

The OCN Blizzard are back home after winning two on the road over the weekend.

On Friday the OCN Blizzard had a rematch against the Winkler Flyers and it was a close battle throughout all 60 minutes. After a scoreless first period Alex Bernaur opened up scoring early into the second period and the Flyers answered with less than 30 seconds of the period to even the score. Mike Svenson and Dalton Andrew scored two more for Winkler to pull ahead 3-1 before Sam Zagari raced to the net and score the OCN Blizzards second goal just 18 seconds later. With less than 5 minutes to go Miguel Bouvier forced the game into overtime with a 3-3 tie, which was ended by Ashton Paul two minutes and 23 seconds into overtime.

on Saturday The OCN Blizzard faced off against the Winnipeg Freeze for the first time this season. The Freeze, including ex OCN Blizzard Briggs Jowet opened up scoring with a goal from Elliot Pereault in the first period after 4 minutes of play. The Blizzard answer back with another quick goal by Sam Zagari only 36 seconds later. During the second period the Freeze kept the pressure on the OCN Blizzard, catching up with 14 shots on goal. Despite constant pressure Matthew Langdon scored the only goal of the second period, allowing the Blizzard to pull ahead 2-1. Something must have happened in the dressing room during the second intermission because it felt like the OCN Blizzard emerged ready to take it all the way. Ashton Paul opened up scoring, pulling ahead before Eric Mork narrowed the gap with the final Freeze goal of the night. Keenan McNeill, Alex Bernauer and John Kremer each scored to wrap up the game 6-2 for the Blizzard and push the win streak to 8 games.

Sundays game saw a franchise first as the OCN Blizzard headed to Niverville to face ex OCN Blizzard Brett Tataryn and the brand new Nighthawks. Unfortunately all good things must come to an end as the OCN Blizzard battled hard the entire night. Despite a 2 goal lead heading into the second a series of double minor and minor penalties would cost the Blizzard the lead tying the game 4 all heading into the third period. An overtime period was in sight during the third after Michael Hlady scored his second of the night. But the Nighthawks scored two back to back goals at the 14:48 and 15:55 mark to pull ahead of the Blizzard  7-5.

The team is off Monday but will be back to hosting games at the Gordon Lathlin Memorial Centre Tuesday against the Dauphin Kings.
