OCN Blizzard Solidify Third Place in the West Division

The OCN Blizzard opened up the Gordon Lathlin Memorial Centre last week with a pair of wins to put the team in 3rd place in the west division.

Thursday’s game wrapped up with a score of 5-3 to open up the GLMC with goals scored by Riley Zimmerman, Mike Hlady, Bryden Sinclair, Brett Tataryn and Drayden Kurbatoff.

On Friday the Virden Oil Capitals picked up the pieces as both teams held their ground until overtime. Even while down a player for nearly half of the second period due to back to back penalties the OCN Blizzard held their ground. Penalties served by Riley Zimmerman (interference,) Steven Bacovsky (butt ending 4 min) served by Drew Peters and a hooking penalty to Raj Gill a second after Stevens penalty was served.

Goals during regular play were scored exclusively during the second period. The OCN Blizzard scored a goal 3 minutes into the period thanks to Mike Hlady’s goal assisted by Guerin Apperley and Riley Zimmerman. 3 minutes later Dylan Halliday tied the game with a power play goal.

With the game now in overtime a surrounded and cornered Brock MacDonald passed the puck to Drayden Kurbatoff, who passed it to an open Raj Gill scoring the game winning goal for the Blizzard.

They hit the ice again today in the MJHL showcase at 4:30PM to face the Portage Terrier’s, followed by a game tomorrow against the Winnipeg Freeze at 10:30 am.
