Ministikok Legacy Project Search For Unmarked Burials

The Ministikok Legacy Project will be in the Opaskwayak Cree Nation this month to search for unmarked burials at the McKay Indian Residential School site.

The search will take place at Fisher Island on the Opaskwayak Cree Nation, and will run from June 16th to 18th, from 9 AM to 4 PM each day.

Please note that there will be human remain detection dogs on the OCN during this time, and you are asked not to disturb or feed the dogs. They will be working hard to help locate graves, so food and pets may throw them off, leading to missed graves.

If you have any questions, you can contact Janet Head at 431-363-1432 or by emailing janet.head@opaskwayak.ca.

Blue Jean Jacket Day This Saturday

This Saturday, June 6th, is Blue Jean Jacket Day, a day to raise awareness and show support for missing, murdered, and exploited indigenous men and boys. Similar to Red Dress Day in May for indigenous women and girls.

On this day, wear your denim jackets to show your support for those who have been lost. It’s not just a show of solidarity, but a prayer woven into a sea of fabric. Each jacket honours the spirits of missing and murdered Indigenous boys and men. The fathers, brothers, sons, uncles, grandfathers, friends, and husbands who were taken from the world before their time.

So show your support and stand together, as we work and build towards a brighter future, as we remember the lost.
