Many Events for King Trappers

The Northern Manitoba Trappers Festival brings the return of the King Trapper Competition. King Trappers will compete in over 20 events and Diane Buck the organizer of the competition says “The marathon snow shoe race, I believe Chris Perchaluk won that event, with a time of 1 hour and 26 minutes.”  Those wanting to compete can pre register by calling Diane Buck at 623-4579 or 620-4947. There’s big prize money available for the Trapper Competitions including $1,200 and more for King Trapper.

Heart to Heart Program in The Pas

The Northern Health Region is hosting a program for cardiac patients and family in 2 weeks. The program in early February coincides with Heart Month which is recognized as February. The program is being held February 7th at the Primary Health Care Centre and anyone is welcome. Presenters will be speaking on Blood Pressure and the Food you Eat, as well as Managing Cholesterol and Triglycerides. To register you can call 627-6418, or 623-9681.

Trappers Slabs Almost Ready For Distribution

The Northern Manitoba Trappers Festival is 4 weeks away and decorations are almost ready to be set up. Trappers Chairperson Sonny Lavalee says they’re currently working on getting slabs ready so they can be distrusted to local businesses. They will be setting up slabs at the Wescana Inn this year so they can be disturbed easily.  You can reach Lavalee at 620-1704 to pre order slabs for your business.

 

Acres Manor Victims Need Help Moving

If you’d like to help those affected by the Acres Manor fire you still can. Right now they’re looking for people to help with the temporary moving process. Close to 100 residents are moving items from the apartment to new homes and need help. Building renovations are set to begin and all items are asked to be moved by Saturday. If you can lend a hand or a truck to help you can call Gary Hopper at 204-623-0200, 9am to 6pm today or tomorrow. Hopper also said he believes everyone has found tentative homes but if not, they can also call.

 

Beginner Resistance Band Class

Residents of The Pas living with Diabetes, or those who are at risk of it are welcome to participate in a class. The beginner resistance band class will be held in early February and is open to anyone. The class is being held by the Northern Health Region in accordance with Kelsey Recreation. Pre registration is required and you can do that by calling The Primary Health Care Centre at 204-623-9650. You can also drop in on January 30th between 1 and 4pm to register. Deadline is February 1st. The 6 weeks of classes will begin on February 7th from 10:30am to 12noon.

Trappers Ferstival Stage Show Taking Applicants

The Northern Manitoba Trappers Festival annual Talent and Stage Show will take place on the Friday of Trappers this year. February 17th at 7pm from MBCI the show will take place and their looking for registration now. Only 8 competitors are allowed per category and they include ages 12 and under, 13 to 17, and 18 and up. Big prizes are available as $1,250 in prize money is up for grabs, first prize will take home $500.

Acres Manor Fire Victims Looking For Housing

Residents affected by the fire at Acres Manor last week are still looking for accommodations. Immediate accommodations for families with children are needed as well as accommodations for single people/couples. If you have rental space available they ask you post in the Facebook group “Housing for Displaced Acres Manor Fire Victims” or else call the town and leave your contact info. Donations still needed right now include food, snacks, gift cards for food, and restaurants. There is still no clear timeline as to when people will be let back in.

Timberland Water Breaks

OCN Public Works will be repairing multiple water breaks in the Timberland Trailer Court today. Residents living in Timberland will have their water shut off today from 9am to 5pm approximately while repairs are done. They ask you store enough water for the day and remember to shut off your hot water tank breakers to prevent the elements from burning out. KSD Budget Meeting

There will be a public meeting on Wed. February 1st in the Margeret Barbour Collegiate Library at 7pm regarding the 2017 – 2018 school budget year. Like past meetings budget items will be on display and board members will be available to discuss them. The Preliminary Budget will be tabled Monday February 6th. Questions of clarification can be asked at the regular board meeting Monday February 27.

Trappers Festival Torchlight Parade

The Northern Manitoba Trapper’s Festival is just 5 weeks away and one of the many events surrounding it is the Torchlight Parade Wednesday February 15th.  All groups, individuals and businesses who want to enter a float can pick up registration forms at Pineview Realty, The Opasquia Times or at 102.9 CJAR. The Theme for the parade is “Remembering the Kings and Queens in 2017.” For further information contact Teresa at 627 – 9725 or Jim at 623 6100.

The Pas and Area Animal Shelter need your help.

If you love animals and have some artistic talent The Pas and Area  Animal Shelter need your help. The staff is busy looking after stray cats and dogs and don’t have time to design a logo.They are looking for a logo that will be instantly recognizable and will grab a lot of attention.
 
Any artist that can help is asked to enter your submission by Saturday January 28th at 5pm.

Country Gospel Jamboree

Country Gospel Jamboree
 
This weekend you’re invited to join in on a time of musical reflection.  Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Parish presents a country gospel jamboree this Saturday the 14th at 7:30 pm and Sunday the 15th at 2:30 pm. 
 
The performance will feature Father Armand Le Gal, OMI accompanied by Jeannine Guyot. Tickets will be sold at the door only with all proceeds going to the Our lady of the Sacred heart Cathedral.

This week The Pas Friendship Centre is hosting Aboriginal Youth Employment Prospects Project Workshops.  

The Theme for the 4 days of workshops is Enabled, Empowered, Educated and Employed.

The week begins with 2 days of essential job skills workshop today and tomorrow.

There will also be a sexual health presentation on birth control, a cooking circle, and a painting with Sydni workshop.
