Strongman Competition

If you think you’re the strongest male or female in The Pas there’s a competition for you. The Opasquia Ag Society is hosting a Canada Day Strongman competition and it starts tonight at the AG Grounds. The 2 day competition has 5 events to try and they start tonight at 8pm. It will all wrap up tomorrow at 2pm. It’s open to anyone over 18 years of age and for more information you can email opasquiaagsociety@outlook.com. 

Canada Day in The Pas

Tomorrow is Canada’s birthday! It’s a busy day in The Pas but first there are events tonight to kick it off. At Devon Park tonight there’s a dance scheduled for 9pm and fireworks to follow at midnight weather permitting. Then tomorrow the parade kicks off the holiday at 11am starting at the Roy H Johnston and ending at Devon Park. The parade will be followed by a flag rising, BBQ and games. 102.9 CJAR and Northland Ford are also hosting the second annual truck pull as well after the parade and everyone is invited to watch.

Swan River Shooting

A 19-year-old man is facing several charges in a shooting in Swan River. R-C-M-P say an 18-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound last week at a home in Swan River, and he remains in hospital in stable condition. Mounties say a vehicle matching the description of one taken from the home was later found on fire and a suspect was arrested. Nikko Guiboche is charged with attempted murder with a firearm, aggravated assault and several firearms-related offences and will remain in custody.

Small Group Fitness for Youth

School will soon be out and Summer Sports are winding down, so what are you going to do to stay active. The Town of The Pas will be holding small group fitness training for youth throughout the summer. Ages 8 to 17 can sign up for the training to be held from July 4th to Aug 5th. How it works is you get together with a group of friends and will receive 5, 1-hour group training session over the month with certified instructors which will design a program for you. The price is $5 per individual and you can get registration forms at The Pas Rec and Wellness Centre.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day in The Pas and OCN

Monday is a special day as its World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Here in The Pas and OCN there will be a “caring for our elders” conference. The Conference begins at 8:30am on Monday with breakfast and registration at the Kikiwak Inn. The conference is open to anyone who would like to learn more about the issues surrounding elders.

May Crime Stats

The Pas RCMP released their detailed crime stats report for May. Over the month of May the RCMP responded to 230 incidents of disturbing the peace in The Pas and 21 incidents in the RM of Kelsey. They were also busy with assault incidents reporting to 29 in the town of The Pas in May and 4 in the RM. Finally they responded to 25 incidents of Theft throughout the month in town and another 5 incidents in the RM.

Canada Day Parade Registration

We’re under a month away from Canada Day and it’s time to get your float registered for the annual parade. This year’s theme for the parade is “celebrating the spirit of community”. The TPCRC is asking everyone have their float lined up at 10am with judging to follow at 10:30am. The Parade will start promptly at 11am and the flag rising and BBQ will be held right after at Devon Park. For more information or to register your float you can contact Krista at 204-623-4269.

Rediscover North America

6 guys in 3 canoes are making their way from the Gulf of Mexico to the Arctic Ocean. The 9 month journey has the explorers paddling from Louisiana to Nunavut. They made a stop in The Pas on Friday. The travellers set off on their journey January 2nd and expect to reach the Arctic Ocean in early September. They left from The Pas on Friday with their next stop in civilization set for Fort McMurray Alberta in one month.
