Red Cross Lessons at The Winton Pool

Registration is underway for The final spring Red Cross Training Sessions at the Winton pool.

 

Spots are available at every skill level except level one. If you’d like to earn your Red Cross before summer kicks in now is the time to sign up.

 

To register head over to the Kelsey Recreation and Wellness centre or call them at 204-627-1134.

 

Regular Red Cross lessons will resume during the summer season.

The MBCI Badminton Team Weekend Results

The MBCI Spartans Badminton Team was in Thompson over the weekend!

 

Isaac Tomchuk came 2nd for JV Male Singles and will be heading to Winnipeg in two weeks for provincials.

 

Sarah Forward and Zoe Cook came 3rd for JV female doubles.

 

Ryder Ellsworth and Matthew Millar came 3rd for SV Male doubles.

 

over all 321 games were played on friday, with playoffs, semifinals and the finals held on Saturday, with lots of memories made along the way!

Flin Flon Bombers Gearing Up for the Canalta Cup

The Flin Flon Bombers have made it to the finals in the SJHL Playoffs!

 

The Bombers head to Affinity Place in Estevan this Friday to begin their battle for The Canalta Cup.

 

Both hockey clubs are searching for their first Championship since the 90's with Flin Flon last winning during the 92-93 season.

Round Two Of The MJHL Playoffs Continues

It’s the second round of the MJHL Playoffs and the Dauphin Kings continue to lead the league with 12 points so far.

 

Tonight and Tomorrow the Dauphin Kings head to Winkler with a two game lead against the Flyers.

 

The Steinbach Pistons head to Virden to face the Oil Capitals both days, they’re tied at one game each in the series.

TPMHA Female Jamboree

The Pas Huskies 2022 Female Jamboree is this weekend!

 

The event is entirely free and will take place on Saturday from 10 Am to 3pm at the Roy H Johnston Arena.

OCN Blizzard Season Tickets On Sale

The OCN Blizzard Early bird Season Tickets have gone on sale!

 

Fans can save $50 per person by contacting Shawna at 620 2191 before June 30th.

 

Season tickets start at $275 for adults and $225 for students and seniors before both go up $50 each on July 1st.

 

A payment plan is available if needed with a 50% down payment and the remainder of the ticket fees due by August 1, 2022.

 

Season ticket holders guarantee their seats, which will be honored for every home game.

Derek Fontaine Memorial Hockey Tournament Results

Over the weekend teams from all over Manitoba came to compete in the first annual Derek Fontaine Memorial Hockey Tournament for a chance to win $10,000.

 

The OCN Winterhawks emerged victorious after a 2-1 win against the Cross Lake Islanders. The Peguis Redmen placed third in the tournament.

 

Ashton Paul received the Derek Fontaine MVP Award while Cheechoo Lathlin received the Brent Wilson Best Defence Award and the Wayne Young Most Sportsmanship Award.

 

Matt Krahn received the Garry Ross Best Goalie Award.

 

The Cross Lake Islanders Konrad McKay took the Alec Constant Top Scorer Award.

Derek Fontaine Memorial Hockey Tournament Starts Today

The Derek Fontaine Memorial Hockey Tournament kicks off today at the Gordon Lathlin Memorial Centre!

 

The first puck drops at 4PM when the OCN Wolfpack face off against the Moose Lake JC Monarchs, followed by the OCN Winterhawks facing the OCN LB Rockstars at approximately 5:15 PM.

 

Games will continue throughout the weekend until the finals scheduled to take place Sunday at 6 PM.

 

In total 11 teams are competing for a chance at the $10,000 grand prize while raising money for the Derek Fontaine Memorial Fund.

OCN Blizzard Announce Spring Training Camp

The OCN Blizzard spring training camp for the upcoming 2022-2023 season is on the way!

 

The camp takes place in Winnipeg on May 20th-22nd at the Bell MTS Iceplex.

 

Players born between 2003 and 2007 who are interested in playing at the Jr. A level must register before May 13th and must fill out the form available here.

 

Midget Jr. B and younger kids are required to wear full gear including a full cage for the camp.

 

Registration does not guarantee a spot in the camp, those not selected will be notified May 13th and refunded the registration fee.

The Pas Slo-Pitch League Gearing Up for 2022 Season

The Pas Slo-Pitch league has reached their 8 team minimum to begin plans for the 2022 season!

 

The league aims to kick off the season on or around May 25th with the season opener kicking off the weekend of June 10th-12th.

 

Games will take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays during the regular season. There are still spots available for more teams to register before May 6th with fees due on May 20th. To register your team contact Erik Bignell at 620-8152 or Logan MacDonald at 620-1790.

Niverville Nighthawks Unveil Team Logo and Colours

The MJHL expansion Niverville Nighthawks have revealed their team logo and colours set for the teams debut during the upcoming 2022-2023 season.

 

Niverville was awarded the 13th team on the MJHL roster in early June of last year, and unveiled their name in January.

Desired Qualifications:

Responsibilities:

  • Has demonstrated success at a high level of coaching previously.
  • Possesses strong leadership skills.
  • Is committed to developing each player, so they can be successful at the next level of competition.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills and encourages feedback from players, coaching staff, and management.
  • Can work collaboratively with the Hockey Operations staff in developing, promoting, and accomplishing team goals.
  • Brings sound knowledge of structure, systems, and concepts that are appropriate for a successful Jr. A team.
  • Possesses or is willing to obtain High Performance 1 Certification and Respect in sport Certification.
  • Has developed a strong reputation for successfully recruiting, developing, and promoting Junior A players in the past.
  • Has demonstrated a high level of integrity in the past when dealing with players, parents, fellow coaches, referees, fans and team management.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for all duties normally associated with the position as a Head Coach of a Junior A Hockey team including; but not limited to the following:

 

  • Working jointy with Hockey Operations staff in recruiting and selecting a full roster of high-quality Junior A caliber players.
  • Planning and conducting all on-ice try-out camps, practices, games and off-ice development.
  • Developing practice and game plans which promote the teaching of appropriate offensive, defensive and special team systems and related skills.
  • Utilizing all available game analysis software to correct, reinforce and motivate players.
  • Developing and implementing a team/player program which fosters the growth of athletic and personal skills of all team member via skill work, analysis, regular evaluation and feedback.
  • Overseeing the enforcement of player rules, regulations and team policies including disciplinary standards for all on and off ice conduct.
  • Developing and maintaining collaborative, supportive, and professional relationships with each area and league teams.
  • Establishing and maintaining a professional reputation among all external agencies (leaguestaff, opposing teams, visiting and host hotels, referee group, sponsors, minor hockeypartners, opposing team fans and support staff.)
  • Serving as a representative consistent with the values and standards of the Blizzard whenconducting meetings with parents, families, social clubs, media, fans and league officials.
  • Performing Community Outreach and making public relations appearances as requestedfrom time to time.
  • Reaching out to sponsors to increase and reach marketing goals.
  • Performing additional duties as directed by team management as requested.
