The Pas and Area Basketball Associations Wildcats Play In a North Dakota Tournament

Last weekend 10 Grade 8 Students from The Pas and Area Basketball Association Played in a tournament at Minot State University in North Dakota. The basketball team is known as the wildcats and Coach Darcy Hanchuk said it was a great opportunity for the grade 8’s to play strong competition. They finished with a record of 0-3.

 

The team will play in the provincial basketball championships at the University of Manitoba on May 11th. You can keep up to date with The Pas and Area Basketball Association on Facebook.

New General Manager and and Marketing Director for OCN Blizzard

The OCN Blizzard has announced that Wayne Yaremko is the new general manager of the team. Also Andy Gordanier will be stepping down as Blizzards marketing director on April 27th and Shawna Hrappstead will be talking over that role.

 

With the departure of Head Coach Doug Hedley. The Blizzard is still looking for someone to fill that position

JK Canada Karate Tournament Results

The JK Canada Karate Tournament was held at UCN The Pas gymnasium last weekend and 16 athletes from The Pas Competed and collectively they earned 32 medals including 10 gold, 17 silver, and 5 bronze. Sensei Jodi Kuhl says that the students did really well and that it was an excellent tournament.

 

The tournament also had athletes from other communities including Flin Flon, Thompson, and Winnipeg.

Doug Headley Bids the OCN Blizzard Farewell

The OCN Blizzard is now looking for a new head coach. The Blizzards Head Coach Doug Hedley has bid the hockey team farewell. Hedley has worked with the team for many years and the blizzard is wishing him the best of luck in the future.

JK Canada Karate Tournament at UCN Gym Tomorrow

The JK of Canada National Karate Tournament will be taking place at the UCN The Pas Campus Gymnasium Tomorrow. The Tournament will have competitors from many other communities including Flin Flon, Winnipeg, Thompson, and many others.

 

The tournament is open to students that are yellow belt and higher and it will begin at 9:30 AM and wrap up around 4 or 5 o clock in the afternoon.

The Pas Native Connor Dewar Eligible For The 2018 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

WHL hockey player and The Pas Native Connor Dewar is now eligible for the 2018 National Hockey League entry Draft. Dewar, who skated with the Toronto Maple Leafs in development camp last June has played for the WHL’s Everett Silvertips in Washington for the past few seasons. Among his accomplishments, he's the youngest player in the team's history to reach 38 goals in a season. The summer NHL entry draft will take place in Dallas June 22nd and 23rd.

TVF 6th Annual Open Co-Ed Volleyball Tournament Begins Tonight

The TVF 6th Annual Open Co-Ed Volleyball Tournament begins tonight. The first games will be played at the UCN gym starting at 6:45. Games will also be played on Saturday at Scott Bateman Middle School, Margret Barbour Collegiate and the UCN gym.

 

Participating teams have a chance to win cash prizes including $3000 for first place, $2,000 for Second Place, $1000 for third and $400 for 4th and spectators can win some cool door prizes including CFL tickets.

 

Admission costs and a complete schedule of games can be found online at The Pas Community What’s Happening in The Tri area Facebook group.

Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Going Ahead With This Years Playoffs

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League has decided to go ahead with this years playoffs following the tragedy involving the Humboldt Broncos.

 

The league made the decision yesterday, which they say was made only when given a blessing from the Broncos organization.

 

The message from the board of the Humboldt Bronces was that the power of healing is in the game.

 

The SJHL final between Nipawin and Estevan will start on Saturday.

MBCI Invitational Badminton Tournament Results

Last week, MBCI held and invitational badminton tournament. Caitlin Armstrong from MBCI won second place in the Senior Varsity Girls Division and second in Senior Varity Doubles alongside MBCI’s Meghan McMillan and Hunter Rambow and Bryce Olson of MBCI won second in the Senior Boys Doubles.

The Pas Huskies Honoured at the Manitoba Legislature.

Last week The Pas Huskies Players were honoured for their good deeds for The Town of The Pas and for winning The Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup at the Manitoba Legislature.

 

The Pas MLA Amanda Lathlin acknowledged the impact that The Pas Huskies have for The Pas and she said it doesn’t matter how old you are you can still have a positive impact on the community. All the MLA’S gave the huskies a standing ovation at the ceremony for their hard work.

MJHL Finals Set In Stone

The MJHL finals are now set in stone. Steinbach beat Winnipeg 4 games 2 in the semi-finals to make it into the last best of 7 of the season. Virden swept Winkler in their semi-final. The last run to the Turnbull Cup between the Oil Capitols and the Pistons starts tomorrow.

Individual Badminton Tournament at MBCI

Margret Barbour Collegiate is going to be hosting an individual badminton tournament starting tomorrow until Saturday. Games will be played at MBCI and Scott Bateman Middle School and there will be players from Flin Flon, Thompson, Moose Lake and Snow Lake.
