OCN Storm Playoffs

The OCN Storm are on the road to face Peguis for games 1 and 2 of round two of the KJHL playoffs.

 

The Storm defeated the North Winnipeg Satelittes 3 games to 1 to earn their spot in this next round.  Games against Peguis are set for tonight and tomorrow, with games 3 and 4  back in OCN next weekend.

 

The other Semi Final series has St Malo facing Selkirk. 

Coaching Session

Sport Manitoba and the OCN Coaching Academy are presenting the second part of the National Coaching Certification Program this weekend.

 

They will be teaching coaches how to design a basic sport program, basic mental skills and teaching and learning techniques. There is no charge for coaches and it starts at 9am sharp at Oscar Lathlin Collegiate.

 

The session is this weekend tomorrow and Sunday. For more info or to register call Barney Monias 627-7070 or Sheryl Crain 627-7162.
 

Fishing Derby

The Derby is held at the Rocky Lake East Shore Boat Launch.

 

Joanna McLaughlin, one of the derby committee members says it's a family fishing derby, and with the nice weather they are expecting a good turnout again this year.

 

There are first to third place prizes of 1 thousand dollars, 2 hundred and 1 hundred in each of the 2 categories, biggest jackfish and biggest other species.  McLaughlin says any type of fish is accepted in the other species category.  

 

Those wishing to attend can pick up tickets at Pete’s Pro Tackle and L&M Sporting Goods in The Pas. All proceeds go to support recycling in the community.

 

Team Canada win Gold

The Pas’ golden girl, Jesse Isles was all smiles when she had the pennant hung around her neck.

 

Isles is part of an undefeated Canadian women’s curling team that won gold at the World Junior Curling Championships in Estonia yesterday. The men’s team also captured gold for Canada

MBCI Senior Basketball

The MBCI Senior Varsity basketball teams were in Thompson for a zones tournament.

 

The girls finished second to Thompson. The boys also finished second. Flin Flon’s boys were first place winners.
 

The Pas Senior Huskies

The Pas Senior Huskies had a stellar weekend as the FLHL playoffs got underway in The Pas.

 

The Huskies got a good fight out of the Valley Axemen but came out of double overtime with a 6-5 win on Saturday. The Huskies made it a 2-nothing series lead with a 6-4 win on Sunday. Games 3 and 4 will be this weekend in Swan River.
 

OCN Blizzard

The Blizzard lost game 2 of the best of 3 survivor series to the Selkirk Steelers Saturday night.

 

The Blizzard fought all the way back to tie the game but dropped a 7-5 final. For OCN they lost both their playoff games and will have to wait till next year to chase the MJHL title. The OCN Blizzard had just 3 94’ born players on the team, Bret Griffin, Richard Grats and Edward Bayer(bay-ur), so the vast majority will be returning next year. For the Selkirk Steelers they’re on to the next round and will play the Steinbach Pistons in a best of 7. 

 

OCN Blizzard Survivor Series

The Blizzard lost game 1 of a best of 3 playoff survivor series last night in Selkirk.

 

The Selkirk Steelers slammed OCN 7-2 at the Selkirk Rec Center. Now it's crunch time, and with a win at OCN tomorrow night, the Blizzard would force a game 3 back in Selkirk on Sunday.

 

In the other survivor series, the Waywayseecappo Wolverines got by Dauphin 3-2 in overtime. Game 2 is tomorrow in Dauphin.
 

World Junior Curling

The Canadian Junior Women World Championships is sure to create a lasting memory for local resident Jesse Isles.

 

Isles along with the other Canadian Women on the team have completed round robin play without a loss after beating Korea last night with a score of 7 to 1.

 

They face Scotland in the first round of the playoffs in Estonia tomorrow morning.

High School Provincial Curling

MBCI boys curling team finished second in the provincials which were hosted this weekend in The Pas.

 

They won the B side defeating Morden 10-1 before falling in the provincial final to Edward Schreyer 8-2. The girls didn’t as well winning 1 match against Hamiota and lost their other 2 to Ashern and Jeanne Sauve.
