Dump Fees Preventing Home Owners from Demolishing Damaged Houses

During The Town of The Pas’ committee of the whole meeting on March 25th an issue sheet was brought forward that said that residents were not able to afford dump fees for burned buildings in the community.

The Pas Mayor Herb Jaques spoke to Arctic Radio News to shed some light on the issue and said that some homes in The Pas have been severely damaged by fires and home owners have not been able to pay the dump fees thus preventing the buildings from being demolished.

Some neighbours have complained about the buildings sitting in the state that they are in and they want something done about it.

Jaques says the Town of The Pas would like something done about this issue as well because if these houses are demolished they could provide building lots for new houses.

To solve this problem, they divided council in into two groups. One group will examine changing the dump fee schedule, and the other group will examine why the fee schedule should stay as it is.

The two groups are expected to present their cases at a later date.
