Halloween is tomorrow night, and the Town of The Pas is reminding trick-or-treaters to have fun and stay safe.
Keep safety in mind when preparing costumes, swap masks for face paint for better visibility, and ensure costumes fit properly to prevent trips and falls.
Parents should inspect all Halloween candy at home before kids dig in. Throw away any candy that is unwrapped, opened, damaged, or homemade. Also check candy for non-food items and small choking hazards, especially for young children.
Drivers are reminded to be alert while driving on Halloween, drive cautiously, and watch for children crossing the street unexpectedly.
Young kids should always be accompanied by an adult while trick-or-treating, and older kids should go out in groups and stick to a planned route. Parents should remind kids to respect home boundaries and never enter a stranger's house or car.
When preparing your house for Halloween night, use flameless lights in pumpkins; instead, a safer option is to use battery-operated lights. Remove wet leaves from pathways and steps to prevent slips. Keeping pets away from the door is also suggested.
