Twenty-one new charges have been laid against 11 people as part of Project Derry, a 12-month investigation into an alleged criminal organization operating on Bunibonibee Cree Nation.
The Manitoba Integrated Law Enforcement Team says the group was involved in trafficking cocaine, oxycodone, fentanyl and carfentanil, as well as firearms.
Nine people were arrested or re-arrested on charges of conspiracy to traffic firearms, following the seizure of 15 guns. Five others face new charges connected to three shootings targeting homes in the community last June.
In total, 35 people have now been charged with more than 70 offences. RCMP say violent crime reports in Bunibonibee have dropped 27 percent since the initial arrests, including a 55 percent decrease in serious violent crime.
