Manitoba is moving to remove limitation periods for civil claims arising from intimate partner violence.
Families Minister Nahanni Fontaine says survivors should be able to come forward on their own timeline, rather than being restricted by legal deadlines.
The proposed changes recognize that intimate partner violence can include physical, sexual, emotional, psychological and financial abuse, along with coercive control.
That can include isolation, surveillance and financial control.
The government says the amendments are intended to remove barriers to justice and better support survivors.
