Manitoba will remain on daylight saving time permanently.

Premier Wab Kinew says the province will not turn its clocks back to standard time on November first.

The decision follows a Manitoba government survey that received nearly 72-thousand responses. Ninety-two percent wanted to end the twice-yearly time change, while 58 percent preferred permanent daylight saving time.

The government says the change could benefit families, businesses and public health by providing more evening daylight and eliminating disruptions caused by changing the clocks.

Manitoba joins several other provinces and territories moving toward permanent time, including Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon and the Northwest Territories.
