Premier Wab Kinew says major capital investments in a series of Port of Churchill projects will be exempt from provincial sales tax.

The incentive would apply to projects including an energy corridor, LNG facilities, upgrades to the Hudson Bay Railway, and marine icebreaking capacity needed to support year-round shipping.

New studies estimate the icebreaking and marine upgrades could cost between 100 and 130 million dollars.

Kinew says the province is pitching the Port of Churchill to global investors as part of more than 85 billion dollars in proposed mining, infrastructure and agriculture projects.

He says the goal is to expand the port, strengthen trade and create jobs in Manitoba.
