Students looking for a hands-on learning experience are being invited to enroll in a new land-based course through the University College of the North.

 

The course will run from September to December, with 40 percent of the learning taking place through hands-on experiences in the field.

 

Students will work alongside Elders and knowledge keepers, learning about gardening, beekeeping, traditional medicines, and harvesting and preparing food from the land.

 

The course also explores Indigenous philosophies and land-based teachings.

 

Only eight spots are available, and participating students will receive a 1200 dollar stipend through CEWIL.

 

The first class is September 11th at 1 p.m. by Zoom.

 

Hands-on lessons that are a required part of the program are currently scheduled to run out of Thompson, but work is being done to try to make them available in The Pas as well.
