Residents of The Pas, Opaskwayak Cree Nation, and Flin Flon are invited to take part in a World Hepatitis Day community outreach event today.

In The Pas and OCN, the event runs from 11 am until 3 pm and includes education, immunization information, outreach testing, games and a free community barbecue. It will take place at the GLMC

Hepatitis C is spread through blood-to-blood contact, but many people don't know they're infected because symptoms may not appear for years. That's why early testing is so important. Detecting hepatitis early allows people to access treatment sooner, reducing the risk of serious liver disease and helping prevent transmission to others.

Health officials encourage everyone to learn the risks, ask questions, and take advantage of the free resources available during the event.

The event in Flin Flon in support of awareness and World Hepatitis Day will take place at the primary health center from Noon to 1:30.
