A 59-year-old woman has died following an ATV crash in O-Pipon-Na-Piwin Cree Nation.

South Indian Lake RCMP say officers responded to a single-vehicle collision on Airport Road just before six o'clock Thursday evening.

When police arrived, they found a group of people gathered around the seriously injured woman, while the ATV was located in a nearby ditch.

RCMP officers and Manitoba Wildfire Service paramedics, who flew in from Leaf Rapids, provided emergency medical care until a trauma helicopter from Thompson arrived. Despite their efforts, the woman died at the scene.

Police say the victim was one of the essential workers who had remained in the community during the current evacuation order. The investigation into the collision continues.
