Municipal leaders from across northern Manitoba gathered in The Pas last week as the Association of Manitoba Municipalities hosted its Northern District Meeting.
The gathering brought together elected officials, municipal staff, and community representatives to discuss issues affecting northern communities.
Town of The Pas Mayor Andre Murphy shares an update from the AMM.
Murphy also spoke about Kinew Procurement and its focus on increasing opportunities for Indigenous businesses in government contracts to support economic growth, job creation, and economic reconciliation across Manitoba.
Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Lisa Naylor gave a presentation, and Mayor Murphy said one of his biggest concerns was upgrades to Highway 283 and improving it to help support the western trade corridor.
Minister Naylor also mentioned that 25 kilometres of Highway 60 would be upgraded this year, and northern leaders encouraged the minister to create more passing lanes on highways in the north, saying road improvements remain a critical need.
