A 6-year-old boy passed away after being hit by a vehicle in Shamattawa.

 

The accident happened last Friday in the late afternoon when a vehicle backing up in a parking lot struck the child.

 

He was rushed to the local nursing station by the driver, but later succumbed to his injuries.

 

According to witnesses, there were a number of children playing in the parking lot, attempting to hang on to the bumpers of moving vehicles in an attempt to slide on the snow.

 

Parents are encouraged to speak with children regarding the dangers of this.

 

RCMP investigations are ongoing.
