OCN Housing in Winnipeg

The Opaskwayak Cree Nation hosted a ceremony in Winnipeg last Friday on the development of a six-story mixed-income housing facility at 366 Marion Street in the city.

The large-scale project will have 127 new homes, 52 of which will be deeply affordable units.

At the ground level, there will be co-working and lounge spaces, commercial units, and underground parking.

The OCN is undertaking the indigenous-led project in partnership with Freedhome Development Inc., the federal and provincial governments, and construction is expected to be complete in the fall of next year.

The Goal is to help indigenous community members survive and thrive in the city setting.

The project launched last year and is well underway in making this happen.
