University College of the North received $5 million from the Mastercard Foundation, as part of a $235 million commitment to support Indigenous youth education in Canada.
The announcement coincides with the tenth anniversary of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's final report, underscoring the importance of education for reconciliation.
The funding acknowledges UCN's strong record of engagement and innovative programming for Indigenous communities.
UCN President Doug Lauvstad stated the investment reinforces the college's mission to serve Northern Manitoba and will enhance learner success and community leadership.
The Mastercard Foundation aims to support 100,000 Indigenous youth in completing their education and transitioning to meaningful work by 2030.
