National Indigenous Peoples Day Celebrations

Celebrations for National Indigenous Peoples Day are happening today and tomorrow, highlighting Indigenous communities' rich culture and contributions.

This afternoon, the festivities will kick off with a round dance during lunch outside the Pas Family Resource Center.

Tomorrow, we will see the third annual Joe A. Ross Pow-wow graduation celebration in the arbour grounds, featuring a Grand Entry at 10:30 a.m. In addition, the Friendship Centers' Indigenous street festival will take place tomorrow from noon to five in front of the Library, showcasing local performers, dancers, and drummers.

Unfortunately, events planned in Flin Flon have been postponed due to ongoing wildfires.

Thompson will also join the celebrations with a special event at McLean Park tomorrow.

The day will begin with a sunrise ceremony at 4:47 a.m., followed by teepee teachings from 10 a.m. to noon, a BBQ, family activities, and an air band contest.

This National Indigenous Peoples Day offers an excellent opportunity to honour and celebrate Indigenous culture and heritage in our community.
