National Indigenous Peoples Day is celebrated in Canada on June 21st each year.
The day recognizes and honours Indigenous peoples' diverse cultures, languages, and traditions, including First Nations, Inuit, and Métis.
The date also coincides with the summer solstice, which holds significance for many Indigenous communities as they celebrate the arrival of summer.
This Saturday, to celebrate, The Pas Friendship Center will host a street fest to acknowledge Indigenous peoples.
The Street Fest takes place in front of the Library on Edwards Avenue from Noon to 5 pm, and there will be live performances, including Drumming, Dancing, and Fiddling.
There is a call-out for Indigenous performers to participate in the event.
A portion of the street will be blocked off to allow for foot traffic.
The Friendship Center will be closed the following Monday in observance of the day.
Call the Friendship Center at 627-7500 to participate or learn more.
