The Town of the Pas passed a new by-law at last week’s council meeting requiring residents to obtain open-air fire permits.
Permits will be required to operate a fire pit within the town.
Fire pits must be enclosed with a screen or gate and be made of non-combustible materials and be located at least 3 meters from buildings or other combustible materials.
Only clean dry wood, charcoal or briquettes can be burned.
Rubbish, garbage, garden, and yard waste are not permitted to burn.
If complaints are made in regard to smoke, fires must be extinguished immediately, and The Pas Fire Service reserves the right to check on installations to ensure safety.
Currently, permits are free as administrators are currently updating the fee schedule which requires the council’s approval, once approved the fee is expected to be low.
Permits are good for as long as you live at your current residence but will have to be replaced if you move within town.
Permits can be picked up at the town offices or by emailing firechief@townofthepas.ca.
