There has been an issue province-wide with seniors being defrauded of money.

 

RCMP in Manitoba are urging the public to remain vigilant and report possible fraudulent activities following several incidents in the province.

 

RCMP in Portage La Prairie had 2 reports of phone calls where elderly victims reported being extorted for money from an individual claiming to be a lawyer for their grandchild, asking for bail money.

 

These incidents have been reported in multiple communities in the province, and fraudsters have taken large amounts of cash.

 

While the RCMP is investigating they are also raising awareness.

 

Criminals are using various means such as social media to collect personal information which can make them seem legitimate.

 

RCMP advises that you exercise caution when sharing personal information, be wary of calls that demand immediate action or money, and avoid calls claiming a family member may be in a dire situation.
