It’s Fire Prevention Week and the goal is to raise awareness about fire safety and prevention.
This year’s slogan is “smoke alarms, make them work for you.”
In case of a fire, you may only have 2-3 minutes to escape which is why it’s so important to have working smoke detectors and prepare an escape plan that the whole family is aware of.
Smoke alarms should be installed on every level and in every room.
Smoke rises so you should always stay low to the ground when escaping, and never go back inside once you're out.
The fire hall in The Pas will host an open house event tomorrow from 11 to 2 pm with fun activities for kids, crafts, interactive games, and lots of fire prevention information.
Local firefighters will be on hand doing a meet and greet and providing information, there will also be a demonstration of fire suppression techniques.
The goal of Fire Prevention Week is to reduce the risk of fires and to promote fire safety practices, and everyone is encouraged to check smoke alarms every month to ensure they are working and replace them every 10 years.
Educator tool kits, smoke alarm activities, and digital catalogues with information can all be found at fpw.org.
