NRHA Statement on KIM State of Emergency

With a northern First Nations health care organization declaring a state of emergency on health care services in the region, the Northern Health Region says it looks forward to continuing to work with Indigenous organizations to address these issues.

Keewatinohk Inniniw Minoayawin’s elected leaders council declared the state of emergency due to a critical nursing shortage that’s impacting nursing stations in Manitoba.

A NRHA spokesperson says the work they’ve partnered with MKO and KIM include moving forward to end anti-Indigenous racism in healthcare and co-planning on sustainable delivery in the region.

The spokesperson states the health authority wants to implement these solutions without delay, but it will take time and work to solve these -quote- “very complex, multifaceted issues”.
