CaNickel Fine Mining Company Violates Federal Environmental Legislation

A Manitoba mining company is in hot water for violating federal environmental legislation.

CaNickel Mining Limited has been ordered to pay two hundred thousand dollars after pleading guilty to two offenses that were violations of the Metal Mining Effluent Regulations under the Fisheries Act.

In a statement by the federal government, the company was charged for releasing effluent containing higher than allowed levels of radium into Bucko’s Lake near Wabowden in 2017.

Additionally, it was deemed CaNickel failed to -quote- “follow requirement to collect and test effluent samples on scheduled dates in 2017”.

CaNickel is now listed under the Environmental Offenders Registry.
