SnowShoe Trail opens at Grace Lake

The Board of Opasquia Trails Inc.  announced today that a snowshoe trail has opened at Grace Lake.

Over the last weekend Board members and volunteers “broke” a trail across the lake to the boreal trail for people to snowshoe.

“We have placed flags from Kelsey Watershed District Office along the west shore of Grace Lake, this is the area where the floating boardwalk will go”, said Marilyn Meyers, board member. “From there people will enter the forest at the site of the boreal trail”.

The area was designed to be a four-season recreational area and the snowshoe trail is the first winter activity that has opened.

“When we snowshoed through the area we were amazed to see the large number of animals that call the area home.” “There were typical animals including grouse, squirrels and other ground rodents, but we also encountered the tracks of a lynx”, commented Shawn Sexsmith, a board member. “The tracks in the snow have a story to tell!”

The snowshoe trail is a self guided trail and you are asked to stay on the trail. Should you not have snowshoes, they are available to rent at the Wellness Center for a nominal amount.

Opasquia Trails is a non-profit organization dedicated to building educational and recreational trails near The Pas and Opaskwayak Cree Nation in Manitoba. Members of the organization come from government, education, service groups and interested citizens.
