Thompson MLA Danielle Adams wrote about the lack of staff in obstetrics units in northern Manitoba in her latest report.

This comes as the obstetrics unit at Saint Anthony’s Hospital in The Pas revealed that their staff vacancy rate is at 50 per cent which means pregnant patients are forced to transfer to Thompson, Brandon, and Winnipeg.

She adds nurses have been working without a contract for the past four years, and with high nursing vacancies in virtually all units in the north, the province is using agency nurses.

Adams states the PCs need to stop cutting northern healthcare and work to address nursing shortages in the region so that all northern health care facilities can operate effectively at full capacity.
