On December 31, 2020, The Pas RCMP were responding to an unrelated disturbance on Miskisew Street in Opaskwayak Cree Nation, when the officers on scene heard a gunshot at a neighbouring residence. Officers observed two males exit a residence and begin arguing in the street. As the officers got closer, they saw that one of the males had what appeared to be two separate firearms.
The officers ordered the male to drop the guns and advised that he was under arrest. The male ran back into the residence, and the officers could see him enter a room in the home. After a short period, the male exited the room without the firearms and was arrested. Both firearms were seized by RCMP.
Further investigation revealed the male had pointed the gun at another male and had discharged a single shot into a basement wall of the residence.
The 16-year-old male is a resident of the home. He has been charged for Pointing a Firearm, Careless Use of a Firearm, and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose. He has been released from custody.
