University College of the North Offering the Health Care Aide Assistant Program to Support Pandemic Response

University College of the North (UCN), in partnership with the Northern Health Region (NRHA) and the Northern Manitoba Sector Council, will offer a short Health Care Aide Assistant program in several Northern communities starting in January 2021.

UCN, along with Assiniboine Community College and Red River College, will deliver the program throughout Manitoba. Red River College designed the program and shared the curriculum for this important offering.

“This offering in partnership with our stakeholders demonstrates that UCN is completely committed to meeting the educational needs of the north, especially in such trying times,” said Dr. Vicki Zeran, Dean of Health at UCN.

“This offering demonstrates the value that UCN provides to northern Manitobans,” said UCN’s President and Vice-Chancellor Doug Lauvstad.

“These new graduates will provide the essential care needed in our long-term care homes, in a time when COVID is ravaging our most vulnerable.”

“We welcome this training and look forward to employing graduates of the Health Care Aide Assistant Program in the New Year,” said NRHA CEO Helga Bryant.

“This partnership with UCN is an excellent example of pivoting to meet a community need with timely, specific training and we and the patients and residents we care for appreciate it.”

University College of the North provides learning opportunities to northern communities while respecting diverse Indigenous and northern values.
