MLA Amanda Lathlins Private Members Bill 213 passed its first reading recently.

The Bill would provide access to health care to children and young people in Northern and remote communities that have been sexually assaulted.

As of right now in Northern communities like The Pas only adults have access to sexual assault kits and if a minor reports a sexual assault they are instead flown to Winnipeg to see a sexual assault nurse examiner.

Sexual assault kits are used to gather evidence to charge sexual predators and Lathlin believes that this inequality in access to resources for victims of sexual assault can have grave implications on children and they deserve better
