Northern Health Region AGM

The Northern Health Region held their annual general meeting for the 2019-20 year on Tuesday afternoon.

COVID-19 was a highlight of the meeting, with CEO Helga Bryant saying it was -quote- “all consuming” for the region since February.

With recent news briefings from the province stating COVID-positive patients or people experiencing symptoms are disregarding self-isolation guidelines and not limiting social contacts, Bryant is reminding people that the best way to curb the spread of the virus is to stay home.

In her annual report, Bryant highlighted that the region improved harm reduction by increasing capacity on RAM clinics across the north.

However, sexually transmitted and blood-borne diseases continue to significantly impact the region, and Bryant says while the focus is on COVID, the health authority needs to continue to be a leader in combating the syphilis outbreak in the north, which has reached a near-epidemic state in the province.

She goes on to say that the NRHA is a leader in helping to address syphilis in the region.
