Serving up Fire Safety in the Kitchen

Next week is fire prevention week and the slogan for this year is "Serving up Fire Safety in the Kitchen.

Lars Pillipow Fire Prevention Officer for The Pas has some tips on how to prevent kitchen fires.

It’s recommended not to leave your cooking unattended and to keep pot handles turned towards the stove but not over the burners to avoid having them knocked over.

When it comes to putting out grease fires Pillipow recommends using a fire extinguisher at a safe distance because if deployed to close the compressed air could spread the fire.

You can also put out grease fires using baking soda or by putting a lid or a damp cloth on the pans.

Water should never be used to put a grease fire.
