Faye Thorne of The Pas has received the 2020 Governor General's Sovereign Medal for Volunteers.

The award recognizes Thorne’s 13 years of supporting veterans with the Salvation Army and the Royal Canadian Legion.

She first found out that she won the award a few months ago after getting a call from Rideau Hall.

When asked how she felt when she found out she won this major award she said was dumbfounded and just couldn't believe it.

She was presented with her medal by her son Owen at the Government House in Winnipeg.
