Town Council Items UPDATED

The Arctic Gateway Group recently sent a letter to The Pas mayor and council providing an update on the work that has been done to the Hudson Bay Railways Reimer Building on 4th Street West. the letter was brought up last night at the committee of the whole meeting.

The building has been a hot spot for mischief and vandalism and so far the Arctic Gateway group has cleaned up the graffiti on the building, cleaned up garbage in the area, boarded up the remaining entrance and crawl space, and reduced access points for trespassers.

HBR is actively looking for alternative uses for the Building and there is a possibility that the building could be demolished in the future.

They are also required to determine how the asbestos in the building will affect the refurbishment or demolition.

A public hearing was also held at town hall regarding a variation application submitted by Jason Foster from The Pas Christian Fellowship.

The plan is to build an addition on the church at 440 Larose Avenue but according to an issue sheet, the engineering department and fire department are not in favour of the front yard variation as they feel maintaining neighbourhood aesthetics is important. Town council voted not to move forward with this variation application hence the request for the addition was not approved.
