Flin Flon MLA Tom Lindsey is calling on the provincial government to send applications for funding northern municipal infrastructure projects to Ottawa as soon as possible as construction season looms.

In a press release, the NDP cited a Winnipeg newspaper that reported Infrastructure Canada hadn’t received any applications under the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program for northern and rural projects in Manitoba.

Lindsey says that while there’s still time for the province to send in the applications for approval, it won’t be long before construction season kicks off.

Any projects that don’t get funding this for this season will have to wait until next year, which Lindsey says could cause issues for aging infrastructure.

Lindsey goes on to explain that smaller communities in particular need this funding in order to ensure they can complete these projects.
