MP Niki Ashton called on the Federal Government to take urgent action to help Northern Communities to cope with the COVID 19 pandemic during a virtual sitting of parliament on Tuesday.

Ashton says First Nations are doing everything they can to keep their communities safe but accused the Federal Government of not addressing issues of overcrowded houses and the lack of access to health care in these communities.

Ashton pointed out that people in the Berens River Area are calling for a ventilation centre and people in Cross Lake and Island Lake need hospitals.

Asthon also echoed the call of First Nations to temporally shutdown work camps following the outbreak in La Loche Saskatchewan.
