Manitoba Public Insurance Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month Public Awareness Campaign

May is National Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month and Manitoba Public Insurance will launch a new public awareness campaign called “watch for motorcycles”

MPI said in a news release that motorcycle fatalities doubled in 2019 compared to the 10 year average and while they have had a positive impact on claims in the last couple of month’s warmer weather has brought more motorcycles and it’s important to remind people to share the road.

Motorcyclists are reminded to wear the right gear, to ride with your headlights on and in a position on the road way where you can be seen, and to remain visible whenever possible.

Drivers are reminded to always look twice when changing lanes and at intersections to ensure there is no motorcycle in your blind spot, watch for motorcycles signals and to keep your distance as motorcycles may stop faster than other vehicles.
